Pair of (1940's) Chinese Cherry Amber Carved Vase with Kids

Each is 13.3 inches (34 cm) tall by 6.2 inches (15.9 cm) wide, and 11.75 inches (30 cm) tall by 5.6 inches (14.2 cm) wide without stand. The amber are 3192 gram. The total weight is 7.7 Lb.

The amber have small chips, inclusions, and surface wears and scratches. The wood carved stands have cracks and one stand was glued back (as seen in the photos).

Intricately and beautifully decorated with a Taotie Mask, Deer, Tigers, a Phoenix and a Dragon on one side, while the other has detailed scrolling, foliage and a copper buckle for attaching. A superb quality very large pottery figure of a male attendant or official, dating to the earlier Ming Dynasty, 1400-1500 AD.

The figure is placed on a high hexagonal plint and wears a fine two-colour blue and turquoise glazed robe. The unglazed areas have pigmented colors in red, black and white. Finely painted facial details.

The head is attachable as often seen on the largest figures from this period.

the woman of many Chinese Ethnic Minority groups did not cut their hair. It was often worn on the top of the head in a bun,and sometimes intertwined with lengths of an ancestors hair for added protection from evil spirits.

The hair was often (especially for festivals) decorated with added silver ornaments and/or hairpins.
