SOLD An antique Japanese Ko Tansu (personal storage chest) made entirely of Kiri (Paulownia) wood. Hand forged iron hardware including the Warabite style handles. Features 6 drawers of varying sizes, a lift-out door and a hinged door behind which 2 small drawers are hidden. Each handle has a metal backstop called Atari that made a knocking sound and functioned as a security precaution if the Tansu were opened or moved.

SOLD A Chinese Qingbai Glazed Ewer. Circa, 960-1279, Jingdezhen, Song Dynasty.
Found in the Philippines.
Ewer with a baluster shaped body, rising from a short straight foot, tapering inwards to its shoulders onto a waisted neck and a flaring mouth with an applied strap handle, opposite a long curved spout. The ewer is covered overall in a translucent blue-green glaze, stopping short above its foot and its base remains fully unglazed.

Quirky pair of fishing bobs from the Mentawai Islanders off the coast of West Sumatera. These are probably multifunctional as I have seen them described variously as turtle net buoys, fishing bobs as well as net weavers. A Chinese bronze slender pear-shaped vase unusually cast in high relief with two guei dragons, each with long double-ended tail, one reaching the base, the other the rim. 31 cms, late Ming dynasty, 16th/17th century.
A couple of shallow knocks to the underside. Otherwise good condition.

One vase is perfect the other has a glaze frit to the rim with an associated bruise 1.2 cm.

EUR €2,800 Lacquered wood netsuke depicting the Kyōgen theater mask of a monkey (saru), very recurring in traditional Japanese theater. The mask is characterized by the typical physiognomy of the monkey, with large fixed eyes and an open mouth, of a lacquered red colour.
