Rare Chinese Neolithic Pottery Jar (Xindian)

This rare pottery jar was made around 3,000 years ago. Although we are not certain from which Neolithic culture it originates, it does have similarities to pottery of the Xindian Culture (c. 1200 - 500 BC). The surface colour of the pottery varies considerably due to uneven conditions in the kiln during firing. Chinese Carved Ivory graduated size floral and oval Beads necklace, Ca. 1920, 20" long, largest carved bead-10mm(3/8" diameter), largest oval bead-0.5mm(1/8" wide), larger carved beads are in the front, other oval size ivory beads are in the back. The condition is good.

Japanese oribe ware tall vase for ikebana (flower arrangements), with calligraphy inscription in front. Circa 1950, bottom marked "Nishikawa Kyomo", "made in Occupied Japan".

Antique Chinese monochrome deep blue vase, the body of a melon form with a foliate rim, decorated with ornate gilt motifs of guardian lions / fu dogs playing with hassled "xiu qiu" balls, floral designs and scholar's objects. The foot is marked "Qianlong" (1766-1795).

Japanese Earthenware Bowl, heavy white splash design on black thick glaze with dark greenish speckles,, 3" high, 5 1/2" diameter-top rim, 2 1/4" diameter-bottom foot rim. Some sand bubbles on the glaze, the condition is good, no damages.

An armorer's (katshushi) tsuba by Miochin Munekane (signed.) Of smaller size associated with wakizashi. Engraved katakiri-bori flowers and vine decoration (six petals on vine, possibly clematis.) Artist line active between 1818 and 1887. Ex Robert Haynes collection. Good condition. A larger, sukashi tsuba at least by the same line, also signed Miochin Munekane, is in the Brooklyn Museum. 2 9/16 inches (6.5 cm) X 2 3/8 inches (6.1 cm) and 1/8 inch (.4 cm) thick.

Japanese Crackle Earthenware small Dish, Plate, 5/8" high, 4 1/4" diameter, with raised white Spring Floral branch decorated on one side. The condition is good, no damages.

2 Rare Nepalese HOOKAH/SISHA PIPES, ca. 1850, ornate, nice naturally formed patina. Good condition. Ranging in size from 14"H. x 6.25" W. x 6.25" D. (37 x16x16 cm.) to 7.5" x 5" W. x 5" D. (19x12x12 cm.). Handle is removable! Provenance: Matthew Friedman Collection. He is also the Author of 3 Books on ANTIQUE ASIAN BRONZE.

Antique Chinese porcelain statue of an immortal man, most likely Li Tieguai as he is depicted holding a gourd bottle to cure sicknesses and uses a walking stick. He is glazed in transparent, black, green, and light blue and wears a draping robe with cherry blossom patterns. Kangxi period (1662-1722)

Ink on paper in a fine brocade border with ivory rollers and enclosed in the original signed double wood box (nijubako). It is 26 x 56 inches (66 x 143 cm) and is in overall fine condition. The rollers will be changed in event it is being shipped overseas.

Japanese Meiji period (1868-1912) Satsuma earthenware vase finely decorated around the circumference in polychrome enamel and gilt highlights with ladies and girls of the nobility engaged in leisure activities in an outdoor garden setting. The vase is moulded with densely decorated relief petals at the top and bottom. Koyama Nanpo mark to base. 6 1/8” high. 19th century. Excellent overall condition with no chips, cracks or repairs. Antique Japanese bronze statue of a hooded lady sitting upon a hardwood stand. She holds a cup in her hand with a small dish resting beside her feet. She is wonderfully sculpted with realistic detailing and form. The hardwood stand she is seated on is carved to look like rock formations with leaves and mushrooms with pigment traces. Meiji period (1868-1912)

Antique Tibetan hand-carved wooden deity mask of Mahakala, a guardian diety, the fierce and powerful being and counterpart to Kali / Mahakali. His name means "Greater than Time" as he upholds ultimate rule and power over all forces, including time and death. This hand carved mask is indeed very fierce looking, with signs of wear and traces of old lacquer all throughout. Some losses.

Antique Sino-Tibetan gilt bronze statue of the deity Kubera, lord of wealth and protector over the world. He is typically shown holding a bag of jewels or fruit in one of his hands and a mongoose in the other. Japanese black lacquered woven Bamboo Trunk, Meiji period, early 1900's, 11" high, 25" x 15" wide, with large and heavy black iron handles supported by wooden board on both side, paper lining inside and metal hinges on top to open one side of the top cover. This Bamboo Trunk is good to storing Dolls and other necessary light weight items. There are some black lacquer loses on the surface.

Japanese Kiri wood two(2) section Tansu, Kiri and Cedar chest on chest, Meiji period, before 1900, 42" high, 33" wide, 17" deep with 5 graduated size long drawers, and carved and engraved floral shape black iron back plates have different motif carvings, and black iron handles. Pine wood used in the back and split in some areas caused by dryness and old age, shows wear and tear in original condition, as found condition from Japan.
