Pair of Japanese 6-panel screen paintings. Painted with a continuous scene of a rural landscape. Mountain pavilions sit atop high peaks reached by winding trails. Across an expanse of calm water stretches a long, low foot bridge occasionally interrupted by a sudden archway. Boats and tiny figures go about their business. Painted in sumi ink and with gold leaf on paper.

Indian wedding palanquin for a bride. Made of a hardwood, possibly padauk, carved with florets and accented with iron details. The domed roof is constructed with a latticework. Doors and window openings are carved to mimic the architecture of a garden courtyard adding to the overall feminine quality of the palanquin.

Japanese antique water pump used by a brigade of firemen to put out fires. From the writing, the pump was used in December, Meiji 7 (1874). Other writing states "Edo", most likely referring that the fire company was operating during the Edo Period and/or in the city of Edo, Japan. A 3 character mark says 雲龍水 unryūsui ("cloud-dragon-water", the name for this type of pump). Below this is another group of characters: the top 3 read right to left 細工所 saikōsho or saikōdokor...

Japanese Wooden Shrine Pilgrimage Sign or Temple hanging box, Meiji period, 19th century, 27" long, 3 1/2" wide, 2 1/2" deep, Japanese "Kanji" hand script writing in black Ink, the condition is weather worn condition with beautiful old patina.

This well-painted 19th century thangka depicts a three-headed tantric "Heruka" in "yab-yum" with his shakti. The figure is probably Vajrakila heruka, although I leave it to the more knowledgeable ones among you to decide the identity. The painting measures 10" X 13" and is free of any restoration or re-painting. In need of a cleaning.

As best I can tell, this is the rare first edition of this print, dating to 1934. Present are both the Watanabe "sausage" seal as well as the red 6mm seal, visible in the lower left corner of the print. The subject is commonly listed as "Snow at Ukimido Temple," and is both rare and highly sought after. The print measures 10-1/4" X 15-1/4", a size commonly described as "oban."
