The Schadle Collection
A very fine early example of a Japanese Arita fish plate in the shape of a fish. Classic motifs of the three friends of winter (pine, bamboo and plum) as well as wealthy happy children celebrating and bringing a large fish back home. The pictures do not do this the justice it deserves. The gold gilding is shinny and bright. The top surface is very concave and wavy from the lack of center stilts under the base when it was fired. The stilt marks on the bottom of the tail and head are clearly visib...

A very unusual Japanese Imari platter which I believe is Nabeshima ware. Its most prominent feature is the profile of a stork or heron. The technique used for this design is called Fukizumi in Japanese. Translated it means “ink spraying”. From what I can research it not know exactly how this was done but works using this technique are not common. The example here is large bold and beautiful. Some of the design elements remind me of Atira ware. The closest comparison item I could find is in V...

This rare and beautiful bottle vase dates from the Ch'ien Lung Period (1736-1795) of the Qing dynasty. This type of ware was very popular with the imperial court during this time.
