Japanese silver pipe with brown bamboo body, the mouthpiece with design of engraved bamboo. Length: 7 1/2" Circa 1900, Meiji period.

A fine silver kiseru (kizeru) pipe with natural bamboo body, the ends finely engraved with a dragon and tiger in the bamboo grove. The color of the central bamboo section is dark (almost black) with purple tint. The eye (eyes) is inlaid with gold (very small though). Circa 1900. 7 1/4” (18.8cm)

Tall Japanese sectional patinated bronze tripod censer, or incense burner, on a pedestal base decorated on the vertically ribbed body with a relief motif of birds perched on blossoming, leafy branches. The lid has a Buddhist lion-dog (shishi) finial and there is an elaborate animal mask form handle on each side. The base holds a square apochryphal Chinese Ming dynasty Xuande reign mark. Late 19th century. 19 1/2” high x about 10 1/2” diameter...

A gorgeous Japanese brazier with excellent high quality enamel work, this treasure is contrasted in color from the dark silvered with areas of gold lid and the bronzed tone copper base, making it a visual treat. Dated to the late 19th century this can still used for fragrant dried flowers on a desk top or table. It measures 6.5" diameter x 5.5" high.

Japanese four prong Vajra or diamond thunderbolt form Chisakuin Temple, bronze with worn gilt, Edo age (over 200 years old). Very powerful ritual tool representing firmness of spirit and spiritual power. Worn gilt on one side, all over relief, double sided with lotus flower in center, trident prongs emerging from the four cardinal directions. Size: 6 1/8" long

Japanese antique iron Shokudai (Buddhist candle stand), flaming drop shape hoju no tama, the wish granting symbol which grants enlightenment and release from earthly desires, Japanese writing on the cloud like portion at the bottom of the drop, holds 12 candles, Taisho/Showa Period. (c 1930). Size: 42 1/4" high x 23 1/2" wide x 11" deep (at base).

Japanese Edo period round-form bronze kagami (mirror) decorated in high relief with a finely detailed motif of crane and its young among pines. The perforated boss in the center, which holds a tassel, is in the form of a minogame (tortoise). There is an inscription at one side (see enlargement 6). We are unsure of the precise dating, but confirm it dates no later than Edo period (pre-1868). 4 3/4" diameter with a 3/4" high rim. Very good overall condition with typical wear for its age...

Beautiful Japanese small silver lidded box with oval shape, decorated with 2 kiri mon and characters on lid, back has maker's stamp, in original kiri box also with maker's name, c. 1930's. Size: 2 3/4" long x 1 1/2" wide x 1/4" think.

Add a touch of class to any sleeve with this pair of vintage gold plated damascene toggle back cuff links. Damascene was an process of inlaying metal objects with 22K gold or silver decoration. These dome shaped cuff links were made in Japan, circa 1950 featuring a mythical Imperial phoenix bird surrounded by flora and fauna, unmarked, swivel toggle back. Size: 7/8" diameter. Very good vintage condition with wear to the dome.

Japanese bronze usubata (container for ikebana flower arranging), with pair of Mandarin ducks with gold inlay, wonderful red patina pattern over all, in two pieces, Taisho Period (early 20th century). Size: 10" high x 12" wide

Beautiful Japanese large bronze trumpet shaped vase with long neck decorated with highly raised dragon and phoenix in swirling clouds, the round body of the vase is decorated with raised scenes of birds in branches, Meiji Period (1868-1912), signed on bottom: Yoshida. Size: 24" high

Hotei bows deeply, showing an unusual moment of respect from the surly sage. An unusual bronze image by Oshima Joun enclosed in the signed wooden box. The face is at once relaxed and respectful, one hand wrapped around a gnarled walking stick supporting the heavy bag on his back. All facets are rounded, with a soft, tight orange-peel surface typical of Tokyo school bronzes. The image is roughly 5 inches (12.5 cm) in all directions, and in excellent condition...

Beautiful Japanese censor, silver filigree with flowers, lid with wonderful little silver quail, stands on 4 silver legs; two gold lacquer shibayama reserves with flowers, butterflies, and a bird inlaid with mother of pearl and inlaid shell, signed on the inside, Meiji Period. 4" high x 4" wide

Antique Japanese bronze vase, beautiful shape and subject matter, 3 koi swimming together, slightly raised with gold inlaid eyes, unusual rim of vase looks like surface of swirling water, beautiful and subtle, bottom of vase signed: Kano, comes with original signed tomobako, Meiji Period (c1900). Size: 11" high x 10" wide diameter.

Pair of Japanese shokudai candlesticks made of copper with chrysanthemum shaped base. Original finish consistent of its age.

Meiji Period (1868-1912)

An antique cast bronze waniguchi bell or gong, the type used to hang in front of places of prayer and under temple eaves dated 1710. Often these can be found hanging over saisen-bako where the bell is rung by clanging a dangling rope with wooden corbel against the bell to awaken the gods; coins are tossed and a prayer given. Anyone who has been to a Japanese Temple or Shrine may have noticed one. A much thinner cast than the later bell we are offering
