Massive Pair of Japanese Cloisonne enamel baluster vases, Meiji Period, each decorated in brightly colored enamels with butterflies hovering above various types of flowering chrysanthemum bushes, all silhouetted against a mirror black ground, stylized floral bands encircling the shoulder, waisted at the neck and above the flaring foot, and wide abstract foliate bands at the rim and foot (slight damage to the foot)...

Japanese pair of mirror image cloisonne vases with amazing details of phoenixes, dragons, birds, and other mythical animals in jeweled lappets and ruyi-heads and flower bands. Japanese Totai Cloisonne Vase, enamel with silver wire work on Earthenware, signed in red "Kinkosan" under the high foot base, Ca. late 1800's, late Meiji period, 12" high, 4 3/4" wide-maximum width. The main body has colorful floral design enamel work divided by silver wire inside two(2) cartouches on each side on powder blue background, and more individual enamel floral design on the green Turquoise color background outside the cartouches...

A finely decorated cloisonne censer with motif of flowers of the four seasons combined with flowers, scrolling vines, and dragon and phoenixes set in a design often seen in traditional bronze censers. The distinct colors, attention to detail, and the golden shine is often seen in Meiji period cloisonne. Age: Meiji Period Size: Height: 5.5" Diameter: 3.75"

A cloisonne plate decorated with motif of butterflies with a black with speckled gold base. The plate is thought to be done by the Honda school, one of the several artists that are part of the Owari Cloisonne (Owari Shippo) group. Age: Meiji period. Size: Height: 1' Diameter: 6.1"

A small Japanese cloisonne container. One side is decorated with maple and cherry blossom among flowing water (known in Japanese as unkin) and the other side is chrysanthemums and flowing water (known as kikusui). The interior is covered with a brocade fabric. No signature is found on the piece. Age: Meiji Period. Size: Height: 0.5" Diameter: 1.3"

11 3/4" high late Meiji period (19th century) Japanese silver wire cloisonne bottle form vase with flaring mouth superbly decorated around the circumference at the base of the neck with a ferocious flaming three-clawed dragon with gaping mouth set against a red background. Flowering plants and a single butterfly decorate the bulbous bottom. Copper rims are at the mouth and base. The traditional blue counter-enamel is in the interior...

This is a well done and rather large Japanese Cloisonne Jar. It is done in the Kyoto style and decorated with three phoenix birds. The piece is stoutly made with thick rims and is quite heavy. The artist we are not sure but the mottled enamel used may point towards Honda. The piece is in excellent condition with just a tiny loss of enamel on the underside of the lid where the knob is attached. It stands 8 1/2 inches.

A fabulous Japanese cloisonne vase purchased from the 1893 Chicago Exhibition. Inside the vase is an old decaying leaflet given to the buyers by the exhibitors. On a fragment one of the massive vases displayed by Suzuki can be seen on this paper (See image). There is more to this faded image on the reverse buy it is hard to see. The vase is one of the well known vases with the eagle finial. Every one of the Suziki pieces was approved by the Emperor for this exhibition. This vase is special...

A Japanese "arrow toss" game vase made of copper and decorated with polychrome enamels, the rims and wires are gilt. Showing antiques and auspicious symbols on a white ground, the base with "fuku" mark. The "arrow-toss" game originated from China and was at the beginning very popular with the aristocrats and survived as a pastime well into the Edo period. From an old Swiss private collection. Condition: few traces of usage, the mouth rim is inside a bit bent (see pict. 12)...

A beautiful Japanese cloisonne enamel tray by Namikawa Sosuke. The scene is a bird perched on a flowering branch. The grayish background changes in tone from the top to bottom. The back is decorated with gilt wire stylized designs. The oval tray measures 11 5/8 inches by 9 1/4 inches. Signed on the front Seitei - Watanabe Shotei. Condition is excellent. In the last image on the back a 1/2 inch slightly darker area can be seen...
