sold Pigeons decorate the sides of this large baluster form vase by important pioneering female artist Suwa Sozan II enclosed in the original signed double wood box titled Seiji Hatomon Hanaire. It is 30.5 cm (12 inches) tall, 24.5 cm (10 inches) diameter and in excellent condition.
Suwa Sozan (1852-1922) was born in Kutani country, present day Ishikawa prefecture, where he initially studied before moving to Tokyo in 1875...

sold An exquisite boxed set of ten Nabeshima plates hand decorated with blossoming trees in red, pink, green and underglaze blue with a steep cheek curving up to the rim on a typically elevated footring dating from the later 19th century. They come in an age darkened custom made Kiri-wood storage box, each in its own compartment, titled Nabeshima Chu-zara Jukyaku (10 midsized Nabeshima Dishes). A paper label later applied in handwritten English reads 10 nabeshima plates, Stubaki (sic) Camelia...

$350.00 Set of two hexagonal dishes made of cream-colored stoneware with slightly everting sides. The clay on the inside is lightly structured with a cloth impression. Each dish is decorated with three double-chrysanthemums in iron brown, covered in a clear glaze with very fine crackle, over which the typical green glaze of Oribe ware, mottled with a blue glaze.

An early kakiemon dish with Tatsutugawa river design. Scalloped rim and bold overglaze polychrome enamels of waves and autumn leaves against a soft celadon (Seiji) ground. A classic motif with excellent color and vibrancy. Waves and rock outcroppings in bold blues and greens with a striking use of red Momiji amongst the other leaves in softer blues and greens. A fine example of early Seiji Kakiemon.

The vessel is created in a lightning shape, with abstract incense clock designs and fern fronds in iron under the thin feldspathic glaze. It features a black lacquered wooden lid. The water storage vessel is 20 x 15 x 18 cm (8 x 6 x 7 inches) and is in excellent condition...
