SOLD Antique Japanese pair of wooden fu dog guardians from a temple in Kyoto. Hand-carved with charming signs of old age. One with curly mane, one with straight mane, posed in fierce protective stance. Momoyama Period (circa 1600's). Very original and Unusual.

He is a popular figure in the household as a guardian. Intricately carved details apparent all throughout. Signature on foot reads "Sei Gyoku". Meiji period (1868-1912)

Sale Pending Antique Japanese pair of wooden temple guardian fu dogs, wonderfully carved with charming expression. Gilt accented eyes and reddened mouths, one with a horn on its head. Edo period 17th / 18th Century. Original condition with hand-carved details.

Small mask of the Kyogen Theater, with a strong expression. Lacquered wood. Eyes made of glass painted inside. Japan, 19th century. Height: 16,5 cm. Several small chips, otherwise very good condition.

$1,200.00 Japanese Noh theater Ko-omote (young lady) mask. Beautifully carved out of wood and delicately painted with the rounded features and slight smile of a young lady. She has the shaved eyebrows which have been stylized and darkened up high on her forehead and the delicate blackened teeth of an upper class woman. Caved mark on the back. Showa Period (1926-1945).

$2,350.00 Japanese antique okimono carved of boxwood in the form of a lovely lady standing with an octopus. A whimsical scene with the lady holding the "nose" of the octopus who in return is sneaking his tentacle up her kimono. Wonderful attention to detail can be seen in the weaving of the basket behind the two figures as well as in the suction cups of the tentacles and the fashionable Edo Period knot in the woman's long hair. Unsigned. Edo Period.

The Kura
Sold, Thank you! A pair of root-wood geese carvings 10 x 4 x 3 inches (24 x 10 x 9 cm) and 6 x 3 x 8 inches (14 x 6.5 x 20 cm) respectively. There are some minor losses around where the feet are attached to the natural form polished wood bodies, otherwise are in fine condition.

SOLD Antique Japanese carved wooden theatre fox mask (kyogen mask) with a movable jaw that would be opened and closed by the wearer's mouth. The eyes are painted in gold while the face is painted in white lacquer with red pigment accents. A fierce scowling expression is carved into the face. Chisel marks are apparent on the backside showing it was handmade. Custom iron stand included.

$9,500.00 Antique Japanese pair of wonderful Koma Inu shrine guardian fu-dogs, carved from keyaki (elm) wood. Traces of painted details in green, white and brown. Expressively carved with great curling manes and tails. One of the fu-dogs has a single horn on top of it's head. Edo Period.
Size of taller fu-dog: 19" high x 9" wide x 16" deep.

SOLD A fine small ivory okimono of Jurojin holding a peach with a deer at his side. The figurine measures 2.25" (5.7 cm) high. Signed on bottom, it is in excellent condition. Price $650 USD.
The ivory stand does not go with the okimono, but we like them displayed together. Stand measures 1.75" (4.4 cm) and has some age cracks, but it is solid. Stand price $125 USD.
