Carving made from the root section of a bamboo stalk, with the tell-tale circular markings on the back of the head and back of the garment. A general, possibly Guanyu, sitting on a elevation or dais with a closed folding fan in the hand. China, Qing dynasty, 19th century.

A good Chinese boxwood carving of Budai. Three children clamor over him. A bat appears on his right hand. Bone and horn inlays detail his eyes and teeth. Rich, mellow old patina. Nice grain figure in places. Late Qing to early Republic. Ca 1900. Very good condition with typical minor distress checks in the old hardwood surface. Remnants of old label. Height, about 4 5/8 inches high.

Charming and unusual set of antique Chinese hardwood nesting stands, carved with bamboo features on legs. They can all fit inside each other to make a trim profile, with darkened finish. circa early 20th century.

Chinese Carving candle holder attendant, mounted on a gilt bronze French ormolu base. The heavenly attendant has original polychrome pigments of red, green, brown and beige and holds a long staff connected to the brass candleholder.

Statue of Kuan Yin, the Buddhist Goddess of Mercy, In formal attire, wearing a diadem, sitting cross-legged, her hands in praying posture. Wood, with remnants of polychrome coloring. China, 19th century or earlier. Height: 22.7 cm. Abrasion due to age, otherwise good condition.

A beautifully carved and gilt boxwood figure of Guan Yin / Guanyin. The goddess is holding the holy Buddhist scripture and has placed her hand between the open pages. China, Republic period, c 1920. The surface of the carving is covered with a thin layer of red that mixes with the gilt. The figure can be fixed to an oval wooden stand. Height (the stand not included) "4 ¾ / 12.3 cm. Condition: fine.

Fine 19th Century Lacquered Chinese Theater Mask with a splendid face and big grin that looks great from every angle. From the collection of Sam Hilu, prominent collector and author on Asian and African art. Wood, lacquer, and pigments. 7.5h x 6.5w x 3d inches, 19d x 16.5w x 7.5d cm.

A carved wood figure of a Daoist Immortal, probably a depiction of Confucius or Laozi, sitting on a separate stool-shaped base, his hands raised before his chest. Remnants of paint. Condition: old losses, cracks. Dimension: total height: c. 37. 8 cm, 17 cm wide x 8.8 cm deep.

Made of painted wood, depicting husband and wife, seated on a chair. Most probably from the Hunan Province. The lady still has a small parcel with offerings in her back. We opened it up and found a seahorse, pieces of stone and mica and other materials. H. 27 and 29,5 cm. Condition: heavily eaten by woodworms, which adds to the charme. The figures were treated by the former owner and are perfectly clean.

Seated on a lotus throne, guarded by two attendants. On the back of the stand there is an inscription : This is a statue (or carving) or Kwanyin, for Mr. Wang (??)'s wife, Mrs. Chao (??). 2nd day, 4th month Daoguang 10th year (1830 A.D.). Condition: usual age wear, loss of gilding, the ribbon from the crown at the right side is missing. H. 23 cm.

Head of Buddha, eyelids lowered, with a meditative expression, with a small usnisa above forehead. Wood, with multiple layers of lacquering and gilding. China, Qing Dynasty, 18th century, maybe earlier. Height: 32.5 cm. Some chips, otherwise very good condition.
