A very beautiful QING DYNASTY Wood carving of a seated KWAN YING with flowing robes, a tiara and her hair is made up into a nice top knot. Very fine guilding, 19th Century, China. Size: height 11" x width 7 3/4" (29 x 20 cm.)

Carved wooden cup representing large lotus leaves and buds on which evolve a crab and a shrimp. The feet are made up of snails. Although the carving work is of excellent quality, the wood used is not purple sandalwood. Part of the edge has been broken as shown in the photo, but this does not affect the aesthetics of the object. In addition, restoration work is possible with a perfect result. A wood image depicting a Daoist Exorcist riding a horse, holding the Seal for the control of evil forces on his right hand and the bowl with purifying water on his left hand. He wears the typical long Tao robe and crown shape hat. On the back of statue, there is a covered niche for the storage of prayer rolls. Wood with colours with very good details. China, Late Qing Dynasty. H. 32,5 x L 19 x W 11cm. Good condition.

Antique pair of Chinese Shi (fu-lions). Carved of wood and lacquered red. These traditional guardians were placed on either side of an important door to guard against dangerous spiritual elements and people. They are male (with his paw on a ball) and female (with a cub).

A fine carved boxwood figure depicting Avalokitesvara, Guanyin Pusa in Chinese, the Bodhisattva of Compassion reclining on an armrest, holding a scripture roll in one hand. Well carved from a single piece of boxwood, good details and fine patina. H 20 x L 13 x W 9 cm ca. Condition: minor repairs/filled and minor losses as well as a few thin drying cracks. 17th/18th C Chinese hardwood carving of Quan Yin. Beautifully carved with nice elegant lines, this statue has a wonderful patina than only comes with time. In very good condition there are a few age cracks which do not affect the integrity of the piece. There is some glue residue on the bottom where she was attached to an old lamp base. Measures 11.5" high, 4.75 inches across, 3.75 inches deep

Wood, coated with polychrome painting. Animal hair used to represent the moustache and the beard. Votive box at the back, lid missing. China, early 20th century. Height: 25 cm. Painting partly flaking, otherwise very good condition.

Taoist statue of a Judge in Hell, sitting, in formal attire, his hands joined together. Votive box at the back, now open. Wood, with traces of lacquering and polychrome painting. China Qing Dynasty, 19th century. Height: 18 cm. Abrasion due to age, otherwise very good condition.

The sculpture is of excellent quality. The Kouanyin is represented seated in a position of royal relaxation. Very heavy wood is covered with several coats of paint. The details are finely incised but are almost all covered by the paintings. The hand was made apart. The expression of the face is calm, attentive and benevolent. The movement of the fabrics is elegant.Traces of textiles.Yuan style but I am not able to certify the authenticity because there are so many copies...

Statue of crowned Amithaba Buddha, in formal attire, sitting cross-legged on an elevated throne, his hands in dhyana mudra (meditative posture). Wood, with remnants of lacquering and gilding. China, early Qing Dynasty, 17th/18th century. Height: 34 cm. Chip on top of crown, abrasions, otherwise very good condition.

Bamboo Poutai. Very finely carved. The artist knew how to make all the emotions and characteristics of the character. The delicacy of the movement of the hands slightly retracted in a precious attitude, the joy of the laughing eyes wrinkled with enjoyment, the softness of the mouth. The sympathetic fatness of the neck...

Ming Dynasty Chinese Wood Sculpture of Emperor and Empress. Purchased from Askenasi in Paris in 1978 by Irwin Hersey, renowned author on Asian and primitive art, and publisher of the Primitive Art Newsletter in the 1970s. Irwin Hersey was an advisor to museums and prominent collectors, and vetted pieces for many of the international tribal art fairs and Asian art fairs. 8.5 x 5 x 2 inches, 21.5 x 12.5 x 5 cm.

A finely carved Chinese boxwood statue of the Tang poet Li Bai. Dressed in official attire with a scroll in his right hand, Li Bai appears to be deep in thought as he strokes his beard. Attached to a wooden base, it measures 9.5 inches high as pictured. Base measures 3.5” square. Condition is excellent. Dates circa 1900.

The Bodhisattva Guanyin, executed in fragrant camphor wood. Made in two parts. H. 32 cm. China, Ming Dynasty (1368-1644). Remains of lacquer and gilding.
