A small sized kiri or paulownia wood tansu with iron decorative fittings and locks surrounding the drawers and the sides of the tansu. The locks are decorated with motifs in the form of a plant and curved features for the side fittings. The bottom of all the drawers contain an inscription of which drawer goes where and the name of the previous owner. The top drawer, which has the most inscriptions, states that the tansu was acquired on November 23, 24th year of Meiji (1891) in the town of Mitsu...

There are at least 5/6 individual style of chinese calligraphy on a fan, late Qing or republic era, by a few calligraphers unknown to me as i am not expert in Chinese calligraphy and i can't read the chinese words. To me it's nice as deco for wall as it has aged by time.

Beautiful Japanese antique small tansu with locking bar (bo), 3 drawers behind locking bar, locking bar has key and elaborate hardware with kiri mon, bottom drawer has large metal raised lock plate with crane, safe box in lower right hand corner with more metal hardware, two small interior safe drawers, front of keyaki (elm) wood, original finish, Meiji Period.
