This is a beautiful Meiji era Cloisonne vase. It is larger than most of these intricate panel vases and stands 7 1/2 inches tall. Looks great, but does have a tiny craze line in the right upper corner of one blue panels.

A table of turned wood from the folk industry of Korea dating from the 19th century. This is a rare find, even in Korea, where very little remained after years of warfare and rebuilding. Traditionally with four joined legs called a soban, this type turned from a roundel is quite unusual. It is 35 cm (14 inches) diameter. There are some minor insect damages.

This is one of the more intriguing lacquer objects we have owned. Adorned with maki-e Aoe (hollyhock) Ka-mon on nashiji ground (also known as the Kamo Aoi as it was sacred to the Kamo shrine), family crest for prominent daimyo families including the Tokugawa and the Matsudaira during the Momoyama and Edo periods. Even the drawer pull is fashioned as an open worked shibuichi Aoe Ka-mon with the surprise of a textured, kinko (soft metal) raised backing only if you look for it. More interesting yet...

A Chinese blue and white porcelain jar decorated with dramatic and humoristic animals and other motifs, and two unreadable characters on the bottom. The jar was made in early 17th century, probably for exporting. Condition: Perfect condition with three very short kiln cracks as shown on photos. Diameter: 4-7/8", height:3-3/4".

A 19th Century Korean double Nong chest decorated with Phoenixes and dragons. Speckled with gold flecks onto dry lacquer inlaid with mother of pearl, horn and brass. The circular brass hardware is cast in the form of a shou symbology, longevity and happiness. The double doors swing out exposing the compartment's navy blue gauzy fabric. The chest has a built in stand.

Korean furniture is highly sought after and difficult to find due to its exemplary craftsmanship.

Antique Chinese silver fish set for 12 persons, with twelve forks and twelve knives. All handles with decoration of small Chinese figures among pagodas and a shield-shaped cartouche with monogram "S", the silver tines and blades engraved. Unmarked. Condition: traces of usage, tines partially little distorted, tips of seven blades chipped. Dimension: fork: length: c. 18.2 cm, knife: length: c. 21 cm. Total weight: 1110 g.

An antique 2 section Kimono chest (Isho Tansu) made of rare solid Kuwa (Mulberry) and Kiri (Paulwonia) woods. All original bronze and iron hardware. Two sliding doors with beautiful scrolling frame behind which lies a lift-off door, small drawer and a split level shelf with hand carved bamboo-like details. Three side by side drawers and 5 full width drawers below.

An exquisite sake cup from the Asakiri kiln of Akashi decorated with a verse and spray of bamboo enclosed in a period wooden box signed by Yamada Takeshi (descendant of Yamada Kikutaro, Edo period founder of the kiln). It is 5 cm (2 inches) diameter and in excellent condition, likely dating from the Meiji period.

Rare amber Buddhist mala or prayer beads, with 18 large beads for keeping count when reciting a mantra. Each large bead and spacer is carved from old amber tree resin with marbled color of black, red, and yellow. The strand has a tassel on its end.

This is a page from the rare Burmese Buddhist Sutra manuscript called the the KAMMAVACA. The pages of these religious sutras were made from a thin strip of bamboo covered with cloth (frequently monks robes) which was thickly coated with red lacquer and gold leaf decoration. Lacquer from tamarind seed was used for the square black lettered text which is in the now extinct Burmese religious script of Pali. An antique Japanese rare 2 section Butsudan (Buddhist Altar) hand made with elaborate Makie lacquerwork. Upper section has two large hinged doors decorated with a blooming Peony tree. The interior of the doors each feature a Buddhist diety, one holding a mushroom scepter with a Baku at his feet and the other studying a horizontal scroll with a Shishi (Foo dog) at his feet. Below the doors are three small drawers where Buddhist accoutrements were stored. The interior was lacquered in gold.

Unusual secondary burial jar carved of white limestone in the form of a person. Wonderfully sculpted with the head and shoulders making up the lid portion of the jar. The body of the jar is carved with the person's arms in low relief while the rest of the jar maintains an ovoid form. Kulaman Plateau, Cotobatu, Philippines.
