A fine 20th century studio lacquer charger. Persimmon orange-red lacquer with decoration of peony blossoms incised to an under layer of black lacquer in the Kamakura manner (and possibly from one of the ateliers in that town which can still be seen and visited when trekking up the main street to the temples.) Gilt lacquered rim. Black lacquer also singularly exposed inside the foot rim. Good condition with light wear. Diameter 15 1/2 inches (39.37 cm)

This item was made for export in the late 19th or early 20th Century, probably during the reign of the Guangxu emperor (1875-1908). Condition - excellent - no damages and no repairs or restoration. 26.5cm (10.4 inches) high; 35.5cm (14 inches) high with stand.

A large Namako Glazed Tea Bowl by Kashima Aya enclosed in the original signed wooden box. The technique is deceptively complex. In fact, the initial form is created, then a thin layer of ceramic is made separately, dried, then cracked, and the individual pieces are applied like mosaic to the prepared form. A large, heavy, Korean brass candle holder, consisting of six parts: (1)a base pan on which screws the (2)candle stick, (3)a small pan to contain the wax, (4)a bracket to hold the light reflector, (5)a fan shaped light reflector which is secured by bat shaped brackets on both sides, and (6)a candle snuffer. This candle stick dates to the turn of the Century, Yi Dynasty, and measures overall 32 3/4" high. The base pan measures 10 3/4" in Diameter x 2 1/2" high. The condition is excellent.

A large heavy Korean brass bowl or tray that was used to carry smaller bowls of rice and vegetables to men working in the fields. The bowl was wrought to shape, and it shows the evidence of being hand pounded. The Bowl measures about 3 1/2" high x 13 1/2" in diameter, weighs about 3 1/2 pounds, and dates to the early 20th Century. The condition is very good with only minor surface tarnish and corrosion. It was the custom in Korea to polish brass, and such a bowl would shine up beautifully. ...
