This interesting pottery model of a groom was made during the Western Han Dynasty (206 BC - AD 8). It is made from a fairly high-fired grey pottery that has been "cold painted" in dark brown, white, red and pink pigments. The figure wears a long garment and a head covering. He stands with both arms outstretched as if in the act of holding the reigns of a horse (see our last image for an illustration of this).

Rare pair of three legged, brown glazed pottery barbeque grills. The Han Dynasty was unique in making replicas for cooking in the afterlife. These two pieces are in excellent condition with very minor fritting and no damage; please note that there is still a bit of the original soil it was excavated in stuck to the surface, with a bit of patience this can be cleaned off. This ancient bronze dates to the first half of the first millennium BC. It is exceptional for the presence of a leopard, or feline at the top, as the majority of similar pieces are unadorned. The piece is free of repair and measures 9-3/4" in length and 4" in height. Guaranteed ancient. A rare and uncommon example.

Rare 5th Century Korean Gaya Water Jar of Classic Form, Color, and Design. The decoration is incised into the clay between the carved bands before firing. Gaya was a confederation of small states independent from and influential on the the Silla Kingdom and its pottery, until Silla annexed Gaya in the 6th Century. The long neck keeps water from sloshing out while the jar is being carried. Height: 10 inches, 25.5 cm.
