Chinese Song / Yuan Dynasty Qingbai Glazed Porcelain Covered Jar

This attractive small covered jar was made during the 13th / 14th Century (Song / Yuan Dynasty). It is coated inside and out in a pale slightly greenish-blue Qingbai glaze. Around its waist are deeply incised lines for decoration and it stands on quite a sturdy foot. The cover has a carved pattern to give it the appearance of a tiled roof; this jar represents a granary.

Strand of Yuan to Ming Dynasty white “milk” glass trade beads excavated from the Tak Hilltop burial site along the Thai Burmese border. These can be dated to the14th to 16th CE because they were found the same strata as easily datable Chinese and Vietnamese ceramics. Please examine enlargements for condition. An extremely rare perfectly potted Zheghu Ban Partridge Breast mottled Tenmoku tea bowl. Looking inside this Tenmoku chawan is like glazing deep into the cosmos. There one can understand the meaning of microcosm and ask whether one is looking inward or outward; probably both.

The bowl gets its uniqueness from the fact that the glaze looks like a highly rare mixture of partridge-breast mottles that nearly look like oil-spots.

This very rare cup or bowl stand was made during the Song Dynasty (AD 960 - 1279), most likely at the Cizhou kilns in Hebei province. It is quite "heavily-potted" and coated in a clear finely-crackled glaze over a creamy-white slip, save for the unglazed foot. There are minor chips to the glaze around the rims but no repair or restoration. Diameter 10.5 cm.
