This gorgeous grey Shino-Oribe Chawan was made around 1620, the late Momoyama and early Edo Period.

The cylinder shaped (hanzutsu) chawan is made of light, fine, unrefined Mino clay. Shape and style (flaring mouth) make it contemporary with the late Oribe bowls. Wan shaped tea bowl made of fine, unrefined clay with a small content of iron oxide. The clay shows few impurities and stones. The inside has been stamped with flower patterns (hanamishima) between circular lines both were filled with a fine, white engobe before a transparent ash glaze haze was applied. The bowl has a beautiful shape and is well balanced and has been used for many years as the stain inside and around the rim indicates.

Large Sukhothai plate, 14th-16th century, with fish in under-glaze iron black and banded mottled decoration around rim and underside. Exposed spur marks and glaze has been compromised, especially on one side and some chipping to rim. Diameter: 11.50 inches; height: 2.50 inches.

Virabhadra, incarnation of Shiva, is often depicted in solid bronze plaques. This one however is remarkably fine, with its delicate openwork. It dates from the 16th century, possibly earlier and was made in West India. It has a warm brown patina and appropriate age wear. There is a very old repair just above the small figure on the left. Height 26 cm (the sculpture), 32 cm including the stand.

A beautifully preserved 16th to 17th century Annan Bronze basin inscribed with the animals of the zodiac which had been used as a prayer bell at a Japanese Buddhist temple. It makes a beautiful ring when struck. It is roughly 12 inches (30 cm) diameter, 6-1/2 inches (16.5 cm) tall. An exceedingly rare find. We offer today a wonderful Chinese Longquan Celadon Porcelain Guanyin (Kwan Yin) dating from the Ming Dynasty. This Guan Yin has been acquired from the world famous collector of Chinese ceramics, Dr. Nearing and his Dragon's Lair Collection some years ago.

The Buddha is sitting in the double lotus position. The right hand is in the Karana mudra position, which expels negative energy or wards off evil.

An Annamese blue and white porcelain dish. Flower decoration in cavetto centered by leaves and flowers decorated bands within unglazed rim. Leaf lappet decoration above the ring foot centering unglazed bottom with typical iron wash. 15th to 16th century. Cylinder shaped (hanzutsu) tea bowl made of light, fine, unrefined Mino clay. The style of the foot lets it appear contemporary with the late Oribe bowls. But the shape of the expertly thrown body, the orange skin effect on the typical Shino glaze with beautiful orange 'fire colour' recalls the days of the single chamber kilns, but the glaze and the somewhat irregular foot is typical for the late production of the 1620's at the Motoyashiki and Kamagane kilns.

Chinese Ming Dynasty (or older) stone head of a Buddha, mounted. The size is 44 cm in height (including stand) and the weight is 16,5 kg.

Well-carved with the face in a pleasant expression with beautiful lips and almond-shaped eyes, flanked by elongated earlobes and his hair in a four leaf style, which is extremely rare. We never have seen that type of hair on the antique market before.
