Antique Chinese Ming Dynasty, 1368-1644, wooden figure. The figure is wearing a red robe with gold leaf. The robe is patterned with clouds and dragons. The face retains the facial hair. The back has a carved rectangular opening where the figure would have held sacred texts, imbuing to it a spiritual life. It measures 26" tall. Lacquered pedestal base is included to hold the figure upright.

A gilt bronze Libation Cup decorated on the outside with auspicious symbols: Cranes, Bamboo,Prunus blossom and Lingzhi fungus and with some of the Buddhist Bajixiang ("eight precious emblems"). This item was made in China in the Ming dynasty (1368-1644) and is from the collection of a British Architect who was born in China and lived in Shanghai until 1931 when he migrated to the UK. Condition: very good - no damages, repairs or losses - but there is some copper oxidation and surface wear...

Kraak porcelain export dish from the Wanli period (1573-1619). Diameter 14,8 cm. , H. 4,5 cm. Condition: very minor flea bites to the rim, a 6 mm rough spot in the glaze on the rim, probably a firing flaw. No cracks or repairs. Some oven sand attached to the foot rim.

The detacheable central Tirthankara surrounded by other Tirthankaras, two elephants holding his princely parasol, his throne supported by two lions. On the back there is a lengthy inscription, holding the date 1674 in Samvat, which is 1617 in the Western calendar. The shrine is inlaid all over with silver. H. 28 cm, W. 19 cm. Condition: some old damage and an old repair to the thinly cast back of the stand. Otherwise in wonderful original condition.

This is an absolutely rare black Seto chawan ( setoguro chawan ) from the late Momoyama Period, which means the late 16th century or the changeover from Azuchi Momoyama to early Edo.

Blackish-brown glaze amalgamates with a wild and roughly thrown body. It is very heavy for a tea bowl, almost 500g. Please note that there is also an interesting kiln mark ( watch image number 3 )

Our Kutsu / gutsu gata ( shoe shaped ) tea bowl is made of iron bearing Karatsu clay.

Its fastly but expertly thrown body is glazed inside and outside, with the exception of the bottom including the roughly cut foot ring with an ash glaze which has some Feldspat mixed in glaze.
