This chawan was made by the 8th generation Ohi Chozaemon (1851-1927) based in Kanazawa and is done in a style known as “ameyu” or candy glazing. The glazing is a wonderful example of ameyu and, in fact, approximates the color of a caramel candied-apple. The interesting color scheme and glossy sheen make it an attractive backdrop for a frothy bowl of dark green matcha. This nikuchi, or seal paste box, was created by one of the very few Imperial Court Artists of late Meiji and bears an attractive and subtle design etched on the cover. Seal paste boxes are used to hold the red ink paste used for endorsing official documents and works of art by way of an in-kan (official seal). A large Chinese bonbon dish made by Wang Hing. Made of mother of pearl shell with silver bamboo legs in tripod form, it is surprising sturdy. Marked Wang Hing on one of the bottom legs, it is in excellent condition and measures 5 inches high. Across, the shell measures 8.75' at its longest point and 7" at its shortest distance.

This is a wonderful bright and colorful wireless cloisonne vase from Kumeno. The vase actually looks more like porcelain than cloisonne enamel. It has a pleasing stout form and is in excellent overall condition with some rim oxidation/wear. It stands 6 inches tall and is 5 inches wide.

Antique Japanese bronze mizusashi with lid, decorated with waves. The mizusashi is a vessel used during the Japanese tea ceremony to hold water. The body of the container has a dragon's head on each side with a bronze ring. The lid is decorated with a band of waves, the handle is rounded. Meiji period, 1868-1912.
