A large kitchen storage jar that was made in North Korea. The Jar is an example of Korean folk art, and it has hand painted blue and green designs on a white base. There is brown staining to the exterior and interior surfaces, where the contents (probably soy sauce) bleed into the stoneware. There are two side handles for carrying. A little warmth on a cold winter day, lets have a look at cheerful works of Tokugawa Hiroshi. Here is a deep “Apple Shaped” tea bowl covered in lightly crackled Ki-Seto (Yellow Seto) glaze fired upside down so that the glaze coalesces at the rim into a thin bead of yellow glass. A cast brass gong mounted in a Japanese style wooden frame. The two parts were joined together in Singapore where the stand was constructed out of Vietnamese wuali wood. The stand measures about 27 1/2" wide x 23 1/2" tall x 11" deep and dates to the 1980s. The bell measures about 13" in diameter x 5" deep and dates to the 19th Century or earlier. Old Chin tube skirt, circa 1950, from the Khumi subgroup in Burma. although deceptively simple is really extremely complex; please note in enlargements that the reverse side of this textile does not show any of the pattern on the front. A Korean Folk Art painting of two cranes under a pine tree. The crane is the emblem of long life which is a common theme in Minhwa. Antique Sri Lankan ceramic figure of seated Hanuman, the Hindu god in monkey form, hero of the Ramayana and devoted friend to Rama. Seated with one knee raised and hands together in prayer, Hanuman's face is full of compassion. His tall crown denotes his status. Traces of green and white pigments remain.

Antique Indian carving of Vishnu and Lakshmi. Vishnu is identified by his tall crown and club. His wife, Lakshmi is seated on his left knee. Carved of a hard black/green stone. Antique Nepalese bronze melong, "Mirror of Emptiness". Melong are placed on altars to reflect right thoughts. This melong has a polished center surrounded by flames. It stands on a lotus base. It is the same on either side. A soft rattling sound from within the convex portion of the mirror reveals that it has been consecrated, meaning a prayer has been placed inside.

Japanese Meiji period cylindrical pawlonia (kiri) wood domaru (tree-trunk) hibachi with a relief design of flowering grasses in gold maki-e lacquer and shell inlay. A gold lacquered bird flies on the back. Original copper liner. Late 19th to early 20th century. 8” high x 11 1/2" wide. Very good overall condition with only minor losses to the shell inlay.
