A rare Chinese Tang Dynasty marble-glazed miniature ceramic tripod container with lid. The marble technique called jiao you (mixed glaze) was developed during the Tang Dynasty. The marble effect was achieved by first mixing dark and light slip on the surface of the vessel and then creating a design as the slip ran together. The entire vessel was then glazed a transparent green allowing the marble effect to show through.

All original hand forged iron hardware and Urushi lacquer finish. 5 Drawers with 3 drawers secured by a locking bar. Hinged door behind which lie 3 small drawers where valuables were kept. An antique Japanese Choba Tansu (merchant chest) made of Keyaki (Zelkova) and Suginoki (Cryptomeria) woods. All original hand forged iron hardware and wiped Urushi lacquer finish. A top full width drawer with two sets of sliding doors. The upper set has a spacious area where the merchant stored his business books and records. The lower set has two small drawers behind the doors and another area for more storage. Perfect for a side chest or a large nightstand.

Antique medieval splash-glazed stoneware ewer with phosphatic splashes, Tang Dynasty (618-907 AD), China.

The ewer of rounded ovoid form is set on the shoulder with two loop handles, a curved handle, a short cylindrical spout, and a flaring mouth rim.

The ewer is covered with a white crackled glaze decorated with irregular splashes of mottled shades of purple, brown, and blue.

Large security door lifts out to reveal two large drawers where ship valuables were stored and kept safe from pirates and thieves. All original hand forged iron hardware including the Mokko style handles and the Pine and Bamboo incised lock plate.

A Japanese boxwood netsuke depicting Shojo crouched in a typical posture, with his hand resting on his knee, while sleeping from the effects of too much sake, the kimono is finely carved with geometric motifs as well as the long hair on the back. A fabulous 17th century Koro (Momoyama to early Edo period) covered in black lacquer inlayed with minute mother of pearl shippo designs around circular windows featuring floral motifs. The lid is solid silver, pierced with overlapping floral designs. The windows feature grape, plum, bamboo and other seasonal imagery important in Asian cultures. It is 11 cm diameter and in overall excellent condition considering the age.
