Thai wood carving, carved as Naga under leaf-shape, painted with lacquer and golden colour, decorated with mirror-tiles, used for temple decoration.
The middle is carved as Dharmacakra surrounded by flowers and leaves. Dharmacakra (eight-sided pillar or the wheel of doctrine) is the symbol of Buddha's first sermon. Age: Thailand, 19th Century

He is a composite of a lion, serpent, buffalo, lizard, and human. This piece does have one repair, but it is clearly a native repair, that is, it was done by the original and native users of this piece. From the collection of Dutch collector Herman DaSilva. Four (4) of the miniatures are finely executed line drawings with color washes on a light-weight canvas. These four appear to have been done by the same artist and are of approximately the same size. The other three are painted on a heavier canvas - two of which are painted in full with darker pigments...

This monk is the disciple Mahakasyapa who was particularly close to Buddha. In the tradition of the Zen-masters, Kassapa was the first monk to receive from the Buddha "without word or writing" the unspeakable highest truth of the Dharma.
This bronze statuette has a small hole on the left hand side of the base for placing incense sticks...

**Sold** to USA October 2020 A rare Indonesian Keris/Kriss with very old short wavy pamir/pamor steel blade. The Javanese style hilt has a white metal (probably silver) fitting set with flat back - "rose cut" - diamonds. For similar diamond fitting please see fig 10a, page 385 - "Glossary of the Construction, Decoration and Use of Arms and Armor" by George Cameron Stone, 1934 - pub 1961 by Jack Brussel (New York). Condition - the tip of the blade is missing and there are two chips and an age related crack to the wooden hilt...
