The figure is modeled with the characteristic serene face and downcast almond eyes, elongated ears, curled headdress, and flaming usnisa. He wears an elaborately patterned robe draped with one shoulder bare. 19th century. 17 3/8" high; base: 12" wide x 7 1/2" deep; 8 1/2" from edge of knee to edge of knee. Weighs 16 lbs...

Condition: both lids with few tiny casting holes, the box interior with some rust, both items with traces of usage. An interesting gunpowder horn dating to the 19th / early 20th century. The slightly curved body is made from water buffalo horn, carved with different motifs as tendrils, fisch scales and Singa masks. The suspension area and the closing mechanism with Singa head, the wide end with a wooden stopper. The gunpowder was stored in the Batak house in large gourds, the chief carried his own personal supply in such containers like this one, which he wore suspended from a chain around his neck...

Such small bronze figurines were souvenirs and gifts from British Burma of the 1920s/30s. Condition: fine, only wood stand with some chips and traces of usage.
