A beautiful Thai painting portraying a Jataka tale. A royal chariot of with the future Buddha before he renounced his royal position. At the bottom of the painting four devotees are holding lotus buds perhaps indicative of another time frame. Done with mineral pigments and the most exquisite coloration. An original Tibetan trunk, all hand-painted in red pigment with yellow pigment motifs of flowering vines and central mandala wheel. The sides of the chest are carved with foliate edge apron just below the iron locking clasp. The trunk's lid lifts away to access the roomy interior.
