Rivulets of green glaze descend all sides of this sublime storage jar, the bottom raw red Tamba clay dating from the Edo period. About the rim are four “mimi” ears for tying down the wooden bung. The base is slightly concave and burnt to a rock like texture. The vessel is 12 inches (30 cm) tall, 11-1/2 inches (29 cm) diameter and in excellent condition. Tamba is considered as one of Japan’s six famous ancient kilns, along with Seto, Tokoname, Echizen, Shigaraki and Bizen...

A Japanese porcelain chawan, tea bowl, decorated with a continuous landscape. The concave foot left unglazed. The rim has a number of kintsugi, repaired chips using lacquer and gold dust.

A similar tea bowl is shown in Sekai Toji Zhenshu, Ceramic Art of the World, Vol 8. Edo Period III, no:240, described as Nakano Kiln, Hirado, mid 18th century.

An antique Japanese Kuruma Tansu known as a storage chest on wheels made of Keyaki (Zelkova), Kiri (Chestnut) and Suginoki (Cryptomeria) woods. Hidden behind the two sliding doors are two small drawers and a split level shelf. Situated below the doors are two side by side drawers for added storage. The sides of the chest feature cross rib supports and through mortise and tenon joinery for additional strength and support.

An antique Japanese Kansai Tansu in an unusual and unique multi-drawer design made of Kirinoki (Paulownia) wood. All original bronze hardware with straight dovetail joinery and using hardened wood nails in its construction. Divided compartment behind the sliding upper doors with wall separator allows for strength on its top where heavy objects can be displayed. Handles were designed in the Hirute style.
