A very unusual “klapmuts” form bowl decorated with three near identical panels composed of a scene of Chinese boys, karako, in the quise of it would appear of monks. The main figure wearing a Buddhist crown is flanked by acolytes with Chinese Fans, presumably preaching to the remaining boys, who don’t seem to be paying a great deal of attention...

A bowl, hachi, of kiku-gata, moulded Chrysanthemum form, decorated to the interior with low relief kiku-mon, stylised chrysanthemum flower heads. The narrow panels partly painted in underglaze blue with a gilt lozenge diaper pattern inset with swastikas, and brocades inset with various contrasting motifs of kiku-mon, hanabishi-mon, and matsu-mon (a view of the end of a Pine branch). The remaining four double panels with kiku-mons and Peony and Chrysanthemum sprays...

Japanese woodblock Shunga print. Good condition. Unsigned like most Shunga but confidently ascribed to SHUNCHO active 1780-1800. Paper size 25.5x34.5. Can be viewed in central London and shipped worldwide.

The theme of this very rare screen traces the story of the great battle of Yashima, in the 12th century, between the Taira and Minamoto clans. It owes its name to the contraction of Minamoto Gen (Chinese reading) and the Taira Hei clan, hence the name Heike. Also called Heike Monogotari. This is a naval battle, the Battle of Yashima (ichi no tani) in 1184, where the Taira clan retreated to an island off Shikoku in the inland sea...

This is wonderful 6 panels Japanese Byobu screen from 1750's middle 18th Century with 21 Ougi (fans) design with gold leaf background. This type of painting properly called, "Senmenga" with fan design Byobu called "Senmen Byobu"...

Fine Japanese 18th Century Imari Porcelain Dish 27.5cm

Dating to the 18th century, this fine dish is attractively decorated in the Imari colours, underglaze blue, red enamel and gilt. In the centre is a fenced-in tree in underglaze blue with red and gold leaves. Surrounding the central panel on top of the underglaze blue are red and gold peonies and three birds. Note also the simple yet attractive design to the underside...

Kobako – Lovely and interesting little model of rectangular urushi gold lacquer box, opening with a lid. It offers a delightful decoration in gold in mak-ie on a black background, of two pretty rabbits in a landscape of foliage. Interior and underside in nashiji lacquer. The inside of the lid is decorated with butterflies. Beautiful border in gyobu lacquer (gold flakes). Sides in fundame lacquer. Length: 8.1cm x Width: 7.4cm. Japan Edo (1603-1868) 18th century.

Sculpture - Inari. Symbolized by a pair of Japanese fox - Shinto kami. The foxes are represented seated on pedestals and take their place in a sort of painted wooden temple entrance door. Japan late Edo (1603-1868) 19th century. Dimensions of the wooden shelter: 24 cm x 25 cm. Dimensions of foxes: 14 cm x 6.5 cm. Inari is one of the main kami of Shintoism, mainly associated with agriculture, revered to protect the rice fields and provide an abundant harvest, a symbol of fertility...

Inro – A amusing and beautiful model of a black japanese urushi lacquer Inro, open by 4 cases and a lid, showing mice and a rat playing together on shells.  Brown, black, gold and silver lacquers of maki-e. H : 5,7 cm. Japan Edo (1603-1868) 18th century.

Netsuke – Good size model of a toad with a rather strong expression, crouched down, about to jump, its legs folded under its belly. His eyes are encrusted with brown horn. Nice natural patina of the wood. Japan Edo (1603-1868) 18th century.

Netsuke – Nice model representing a fox, in Japanese Kitsune, in carved wood, represented seated, wearing a long coat, disguised as a priest, leaning on a base on which rests an open book. Nice model with a beautiful natural patina. Himotoshi in the back. Dimensions: 4 x 3.7 cm. Japan Edo (1603-1868) late 18th century.

Netsuke - A mask carver, by Masayuki. The carver is holding his lasted creation, a chisel resting in his other hand. Evidently satisfied with his work, the carver twists his face into the same expression of that of this subject- a kyogen mask of the "liar" (usofuki) type, one eye closed and the lips pursed into a sideways whistle. Japan, Asakusa, Edo (1603-1868) 19th century.

Netsuke – A lovely model of boxwood group of chestnuts, one of which reveals the passage of a small worm, in carved bone. The natural chestnut color and wear to the wood provides a very naturalistic depiction. Wide himotoshi at the back. Beautiful natural patina. Nice finesse of sculpture. Probably former Carlo Monzino collection, n°191 sold at Sothebys London in 1995. Dimensions: 5 cm Edo period late 18th century

Netsuke - Nice model of the Shichifukujin Takarabune (The famous boat loaded with treasures of the 7 gods of happiness) in carved boxwood. Nice carving details of the whole composition. The 7 deities are all identifiable, the boat itself is ornate, the waves and a small Minogame turtle sculpted on the base. The cartridge signature has disappeared over time. Very nice natural patina. Height: 3.5cm. Japan Edo (1603-1868) 19th century.

Statue of Buddha, in monk's robes, standing on an elevated rounded stand, his hands in abhaya and varada mudra (symbolizing protection, peace, charity and compassion). Wood, with fine patina. Japan, mid Edo period, 18th century. Height: 18 cm. Slight abrasion due to age, otherwise very good condition.

NETSUKE – Old man and his dog. Good and rare model of an old man, figure of chinese sage, standing and leaning to the right,, his hand on his beard and smiling wearing a beautiful large patterned robe. A dog is sitting at his feet. In the Behrens catalogue by Henri Joly, a similar exemple is represented as Wei Peh-Yang, from the Han dynasty.
