An unusual Suzuri ink stone by one of the founding fathers of the influential Mingi movement, Kawai Kanjiro, enclosed in the original signed wooden box titled Tetsu-yu Suzuri. It is 10.5 x 18 x 5 cm (4 x 7 x 2 inches) and in excellent condition, dating from the 1920s.

The gold powder border is decorated with stylized chrysanthemums. The interior presents butterflies finely made in polychrome. A signature drawn in gold lacquer, in a cartouche, by Kinkozan. A fabulous ceramic casket by Kawai Kanjiro covered in his famous Gosu blue with abstract colorful patterns enclosed in a wooden box signed by the head of the Kawai Kanjiro Kinenkan Museum. It is 25 x 14 x 14 cm (10 x 5-1/2 x 5-1/2 inches) and is in excellent condition.

Luxurious 19th Century Meiji Period Japanese Dragon Painting on Gold Silk Scroll. A grand six-feet-tall painting of ink and colors on paper. In Japan, the dragon is a benefactor and protector. Yuki-boshi (snow hat) or yuki-kabuto (snow helmet) made of palm tree fiber and vegetable indigo dye cotton inside. It has washi painted with Paulownia oil for waterproof, between outside and cotton indigo lining. It is from Shonai region in Yamagata prefecture in Tohoku district. It is said it was worn by "matagi", a hunter. The first half of the 20th century. In good condition with belts inside are left, which is rather rare. 40cm x 50cm

A good, small Japanese cloisonne vase. The alternating dragon and phoenix chevron panels symbolize harmony and balance. Lots of engaging, balanced color. Sparkling goldstone embellishment technique demonstrated in backgrounds below the shoulder and in decorative details around the waisted neck. Ginbari (enamel over silver foil) technique demonstrated around the shoulder with opaque sakura and karakusa decoration floating over the clear red background offset by the underlying foil...

Mint and large Japanese pottery tea bowl of Hagi Ware, made by one of the most famous and creative potters of Japan, Seigan Yamane. Light brown clay is coated with colorful glazes.

Note: This is a special work by him. He made only one piece with this design.

Seigan Yamane was born in 1952, and started making Hagi ware in 1987. And then, he started his own pottery in 1992 and has ever been awarded a lot of prizes for his great work...
