An appealing Seto ware Umanome (Horse eye) motif dish. This type of Seto ware was also referred to as ishizara, which can roughly be translated as stoneware. The first type of Seto stoneware appears in the Mino Taihei Monjo written around 1618. The wares were produced mainly for daily ware during the Edo period and became popular through the Mingei movement in the 20th century.

A spectacular set of bira-bira-kanzashi hair pins in the form of cranes among blossoming plum and pine formed of silver which come enclosed in a custom made silk-lined wooden box. Two are 13 inches (33 cm) long, the other is 9 inches (23 cm) long and all are in fine condition. According to a label inside the box they are from Akita City in Northern Japan, sold by Takeyaso Hon-ten. The box is 15 x 17 x 5 inches (38 x 43 x 13 cm). A rare Seto Chawan with wonderful glaze made by one of the best potters of the early 20th century - the 1st Shuntei Kato (1885 - 1961). This tea bowl was made over 100 years ago and it comes with the originally signed wooden box of the artist.

His real name is Kanae KATO. He was born 1885 as the third son of Shunsen KATO.

In 1907 he established a branch family, named himself Shuntei and became the first generation...

An antique Japanese Sendai Tansu made of Keyaki (Zelkova) and Sugi (Cryptomeria) woods. All original hand forged iron hardware including the Warabite style handles and the stylized Chrysanthemum arabesque lock plates. 6 drawers with a security door that hides 2 small drawers used to protect valuables. It comes with a key.

A set of five sencha steeped tea tea cups by the first Suwa Sozan decorated with three seasonal or auspidcious fruits and a poem by famed literatus Tomioka Tessai enclosed in the original signed wooden box. Each cup is 2-1/4 x 2 inches (5.7 x 5 cm) and is in fine condition.
Sozan I (1852-1922) was born in Kutani country, present day Ishikawa prefecture, where he initially studied before moving to Tokyo in 1875...

Elegantly modeled Satsuma teapot of Cherry Blossom Viewing, Scene encircling body of teapot with diamond shaped top border in a dark green. Very good condition with some wear to gilt and signature. Signed"____ZAN". 5 inches high. Taisho Period.

Satsuma hibi-yaki tea bowl from the late Edo, early Meiji Period with its antique wood box.

The bowl has a narrow meshed net of fine cracks and a tasteful gold lacquer. Great work.

Japanese silver mounted Satsuma buckle painted with a traditional pavilion besides the water's edge with mountains in the distance, Meiji period, circa 1910. There is no Maruhei label label on the box but we are pretty sure that this was made by the Maruhei in Kyoto. The similar set that we had seen had the Maruhei label that indicates the set was made in early Taisho period (1912-1926)...

A big Samurai clay doll made of Fushimi clay of the Kyoto area. He is standing proud and strong in the position of drawing a sword.

It is a figure with pleasing and charming signs of time and rests of colours. The Samurai figure dates from the late 19th. century or probably earlier.

Normally all the clay dolls are somehow originated from the Fushimi clay of the Kyoto area...

An antique Samurai ammunition box made entirely of Hinoki (Cypress) wood. All original hand forged iron hardware with beautiful aged patina acquired over more than a century and a half of time. Family crest of the original owner as seen on the top of the piece. Hinged lid opens to the storage area below.
