Japanese Antique keyaki (em) wood isho tansu (clothing chest) from the Sendai area. Top portion of the chest has two small drawers (a rare configuration). There are 7 exterior drawers of various sizes and a safe box with a hinged door (with key) covering three small interior drawers. Hardware includes large lock plates with chrysanthemum mon and ornate pierced carved leaves.

Extremely rare Japanese antique usagi (rabbit or hare) mask for a Noh performance. Carved of wood and covered with gofun, a raised paste made from ground oyster shells. The surface of the usagi mask is carefully textured so that every hair is visible and some areas are polished from wear. The eyes of the hare are a pink color, similar to those of an albino snow rabbit.

Usagi is the creature most closely associated with the moon...

The mouse or the rat are both referred indistinctly by the term nezumi in Japanese. It is a zodiac sign and a symbol of wealth.

Ikebana basket (hanakago) made of dark brow varnished bamboo wickerwork, elongated rounded shape, with a handle made of three varnished wooden branches. Thicker bamboo braids on the four sides. The roughness of the handle is a reminder of a raw wood and contrasts with the delicate weaving braiding of the basket.
