Antique Japanese hanging scroll of monkeys in stone snow lanterns in a forest of pine trees. A mother forages for food while her infant feeds. In the lower lantern a monkey gazes over the snow the second has captured an insect. It measures overall: 21" by 80" image: 15.5" by 44.75". Meiji period 1868-1912.

An antique Japanese scroll of a recumbent cat gazing into the foreground amongst the blooming Peony flowers. Hand painted on silk using opaque pigments. Subject was painted in the style reminiscent of the Sung and Ming dynasty images of cats with the unusual exception of its gaze towards the viewer rather than looking up or at the flowers. Both the cat and the Peonies are auspicious symbols in the Japanese culture and often depicted in its art and poetry...

Antique Japanese 2-section, 3ft. Mizuya. Constructed of Hinoki (cedar) and Sugi (cypress) hardwoods. Both the upper and lower section hold large storage compartments, one behind mesh sliding panels and two with Keyaki (elm) burl front panels. Its Keyaki front drawers open with hand forged iron pulls.

A set of three bronze macaques with fine incised detail in their faces and fur. Their postures are a highly naturalistic rendering. The underbelly of each monkey is signed by the famous bronze animalist artist, Genryusai Seiya. Perfect condition. Provenance: Austrian private collection.

Lacquer covers the natural curves of this wood tray for use in the service of Sencha leaf Green Tea. It is 10 x 14-1/2 x 1 inches (25.5 x 37 x 2.5 cm). The bottom shows wear typical of use.
The importance of Sencha in the late Edo and Meiji periods cannot be overlooked, and has been studied in depth in the book Tea of the Sages, the Art of Sencha by Patricia Jane Graham.

A set of five Porcelain Tea Cups decorated by 5 individual artists from the early 20th century; Tomioka Tessai, Tajika Chikuson, Kamisaka Sekka, Imao Keinen and another as yet unidentfied artist, stamped on the base by the kiln. Each cup is uniquely hand painted by the artist; all stamped on the base by the potter, and come enclosed in a quality custom-made period wooden box. Each is roughly 2 inches (5 cm) tall, 2-1/2 inches (6 cm) diameter and all are in fine condition...
