Add some punch to your table with this colorful set of six vintage Japanese luster eggshell porcelain cups and saucers, circa 1930, richly hand painted with a detailed butterfly design on bright burnt orange ground. Marked Made in Japan. The set is 2 5/8 inches high by 6 inches wide, the cup is 2 inches high by 4 inches wide, and the saucer is 3/4 inch high by 5 1/2 inches wide. They are all in mint condition with no repairs, chips, or cracks.

The work was painted by his disciple, Yamanaka Kodo (1869-1945) in 1934 and was originally part of the collection of Kobori Sakae, who collected various old books and donated his collection to the Waseda University. A large and stunning vase by Nakamura Shuto made for the Shobido Art Company enclosed in the original signed wooden box. It is 12 inches (30 cm) tall, 5-1/2 inches (14 cm) across the base and in excellent condition.
Nakamura Shuto I (1865-1928) was born the son of famous Kaga potter of Daishoji Temple Nakamura Shigeichiro from whom, along with Takeuchi Ginshu from the age of 12, he initially studied pottery and painting techniques...

A large Japanese gourd flower container with a section of the gourd cut out to place a small container to decorate flowers inside. A rattan handle is attached on the top of the gourd. Hisago is a type of gourd often used for various purposes in Japanese culture. The gourd embodies the Japanese aesthetic of wabi sabi. Age: 20th century. Size: height 18" diameter 17.5"

A set of stacking brass coasters in the shape of a cannon shell complete with dial settings on the warhead made for the Shobido company in the 1930s or 40s and enclosed in the original signed wooden box. Stacked it is 10 inches (25 cm) tall, 3 inches (7.5 c) diameter and in excellent condition.
Shobido has been commissioning works with first rate artists and craftsmen for its own facilities and top Department stores since 1900...
