A lovely Shino tea bowl fashioned from coarse, iron-rich Mino clay and covered in feldspar glazing. The crackled glazing along with the elongated kutsugata shape (shoe shape) are very typical of this type of Shino-ware and these elements compliment each other nicely...

Japanese Oribe Ceramic Basket with handle, 6" x 7" wide-shaped fluted floral pedal top, 5" high, 3 1/2" diameter-bottom rim, greenish turquoise color drip glaze blended into creamy color glaze, and carved leafy design outside top area. The condition is good, no damages.

Japanese Female Isho Ningyo, mid-20th Century. Height: 18 inches (45.75 cm), including stand 20 inches (51 cm).

Japanese vintage obi with a mid-century modern flair, decorated on one side in bright yellow with orange and lime green dots accenting the points of a raised weave geometric star-patterned background. The orange reverse side holds the same raised weave pattern. Probably dates from the mid-20th century or slightly later. 135” long x 5 7/8” wide. Excellent, like new condition.

The fine crackled feldspar glazing of this Hagi composition contrasts nicely with the red ferrous clay of the base and the wrought silver globe resting atop. Along the lower half can be seen a geometric windowed pattern giving this incense burner a sense of dimensionality.

Legendary potter Miwa Kyuwa (1885-1981) has been credited with reviving the Hagi tradition of pottery after the war...

Like many pottery traditions in Japan, Karatsu takes its name from the city where it originated. Beautiful Japanese carved Noh theater mask of Zo-onna (beautiful woman). Carved out of hinoki (Japanese cypress) wood and painted with seashell and natural pigments. This mask is masterfully carved and painted with subtle detail like her very slight smile and the small dimple just above her chin. The mask is signed and has it's original tomobako (also with the same signature).
