Wonderfully detailed print of snowy herons huddled together in the water by Japanese artist Ohara Koson (1877-1945). This is a shin-hanga style of print, a revitalization of the traditional ukiyo-e style, which means "pictures of the floating world", popularized during the Edo period in Japan (17th-19th century). The background of the print fades beautifully from the icy grey and white toned sky into the gorgeous blues of the water...

A beautiful and very detailed woodblock print by Japanese artist Ohara Koson (1877-1945) of two herons standing in water with leaves and branches in the background, slightly obscuring the view of a bright crescent moon amongst a beautiful night sky, fading from darker tone blues into icy tones. The herons' feathers are actually embossed into the woodblock and have many other detailed features, such as the scales and claws of their feet and the gleam in their eyes...

Gorgeous woodblock print by shin-hanga artist Hiroshi Yoshida (1876-1950) titled "Plum Gateway". In the foreground is a small girl wearing a kimono, standing next to a tree with long, spindly branches and flower blossoms, gazing into the background at her mother and young sibling standing under a gateway. A complete set of four Japanese woodblock prints in the original presentation folder by Sadanobu III Hasegawa (1881-1963), published around 1950 by Uchida. Carefully printed with embossing and shomen-zuri, laid down at upper corners. Condition: fine, only paper mats with few short tears. Dimension: sheet: 27.8 cm x 21 cm, image: 25.7 cm x 19.3 cm, folder: 35.5 cm x 26.2 cm.

A rarely encountered occupation era original Japanese shin hanga woodblock print titled "Tanigumi Temple, Mino" by Kawase Hasui (1883-1957) dated in the lower left margin Showa 22 (1947). The artist's black ink signature and red seal are at the lower left corner of the image. The 6mm circular seal of the publisher Watanabe (used 1946-1957) is at the lower right corner. Paper size: 15"V x 10 1/4"H (image size: slightly over 14 1/4"H x 9 1/2"V). Very good overall condition...

Shikishi size measuring 11 3/8” x 10 3/4” (paper); image: 11” x 9 1/2.” Excellent color and very good overall condition. There are some slight wrinkles in the paper and a faint diagonal crease in the sky below the bridge...
