Limited edition Japanese woodblock print by Clifton Karhu (1927-2007) titled "Winter Driveway." Pencil-signed and titled, dated '78, and numbered 19/100 in the bottom margin. Paper size: 12 1/8" x 11 7/8" (image: 9 7/8" x nearly 10"). The print was never framed and is in very good overall condition. There is possibly some faint discoloration to the paper from age. Oversized limited edition Japanese woodblock print by Shimoyama Tsutomu (b. 1945) depicting boats in water viewed from above traditional rooftops. The print is pencil-signed, titled in Japanese kanji, dated '77 and numbered 4/50 in the bottom margin. Paper size: 15 5/8" x 21 3/8" (image: 14 1/4" x 19 5/8"). Very good overall condition. There is some minor paper wrinkling in the margins and the back is faintly browned...

Karhu, Clifton (1927-2007) was born in Duluth, Minnesota of Finnish descent. He was one of the most renown American woodblock artists to work in Japan. Untitled woodblock print of a mountain village and two figures by Jun-ichirô Sekino (1914-1988). A monochromatic rural scene depicting a row of buildings against a backdrop of trees. In the foreground is a man with net and a boy carrying two buckets on a pole across his shoulders. A lovely example of Sekino's interest in patterns (especially rooftops) combined with his appreciation for people in their familiar surroundings...

An original limited edition Kiyoshi Saito woodblock print entitled Flower and a Girl (10) printed in 1971 and numbered 14/80. Rare print in a low edition of a girl in profile viewing a colorful flower.

Jun-ichirô Sekino traveled widely, not just throughout Japan but also in America, Mexico, Africa and Europe. He started making woodblock prints early in his middle school days and was prolific until his death in 1988 at age 74...
