Unusually large ca.1935 iron tea pot made for the hearth 'irori' in old japanese minka farmhouses. Stamped with the famed Nambu Iron Foundry in Tohoku Northern Japan, the inscription reads, 'Tetsubin Nambu Seido' iron teapot made at the Nambu Foundry. A small, attractive incense table on four legs in classical style with openwork in red Negoro-lacquer with the typical ‘rubbed’ surface to reveal the layer of black lacquer underneath. A brilliantly textured Oni-Hagi bowl dating from the early 20th century by Deika (Sakata Deika XII, died 1934), the radically fissured surface ruptured by exploding inclusions; the scars connected by cracks in the glaze giving the appearance of constellations written into a yellow sky. Outside the bowl is an earthy beige, mostly eclipsed by pale white. Inside the basin is the same earthy color, while all the walls are like salt foam...

It has a red lacquer base that is matte on the lid and shiny on the inside and bottom, with raised black lacquer stems and leaves and red chrysanthemums. Minor areas of missing lacquer along the rim.
