Japanese 6-Panel byobu folding screen, with painting of a flowering wheat field under the full moon. The screen's paper hinges are done in gold gofun paper. Excellent condition, very presentable well suited for the times. The screen bears elements related to the Shijo School, hand-signed signature, with two red chops, attributed to Shiokawa Bunrin (1808-1877).

In the style of the floral school (rimpa) the decoration represents white and red chrysanthemum (kiku) flowers, treated in gofun, near a fence, on a background of white clouds and gold and silver dust. Period: Meiji. Late 19th century. Dimensions: 367 x H 172 cm.

Painting in ink, polychromy and gold on silk. The scene represents (several sennins) Taoist immortals with children or servants. In the background we can distinguish mountains more or less masked by golden clouds. In the center of the screen we can see Chokaro with his gourd, Chinnan with two dragons emerging from his alms bowl, and Tekkai leaning against his cane and pointing his finger at Jurojin who is mounted on a white crane...

The theme of this very rare screen traces the story of the great battle of Yashima, in the 12th century, between the Taira and Minamoto clans. It owes its name to the contraction of Minamoto Gen (Chinese reading) and the Taira Hei clan, hence the name Heike. Also called Heike Monogotari. This is a naval battle, the Battle of Yashima (ichi no tani) in 1184, where the Taira clan retreated to an island off Shikoku in the inland sea...

Very beautiful and rare scene in ink and natural color pigments on a background of gold leaf and gold spangles of a Chinese scholar surrounded by students or disciples. He is leaning on a table where his tablets, brushes and a basket are placed. He observes a flight of wild geese over a rocky mound, a pine tree and a body of water that ripples among the reeds. Edo period late 18th early 19th century.

Antique Japanese screen painting in 6 panels. Painted to resemble a samurai encampment space divider. The simple graphics of the curtain-like camp divider are painted in black and white and displays the kamon (crest) of the Takiyama Family. Narrow slits between the white and black sections of cloth were for the wind to pass through, preventing the curtain from becoming a sail. Thick striped rope securely ties the curtain to tall stakes in the ground...

Edo Period. Regarding the artist, records remain of his existence in the Higo Kumamoto Clan (Higo Hosokawa) official records...

Antique Japanese 2-panel screen painting. The right panel has a scene of a man and woman spending a leisurely day by a stream. Deep in conversation over tea, their wealth is evident by their richly patterned robes and picnic blanket. A robe thrown over knees to keep off the chill and the orange leaves of the maple tree suggest that Autumn is here. The left hand panel has another outdoor scene of a beautiful lady and a young girl out for a stroll by a small stream...
