Antique Japanese wrought iron lantern with lattice work panels. The lantern would have been placed in a temple with a candle that would have been lit. It is supported by four feet. It measures 9" x 9" x 12" tall. Meiji period: 1868-1912.

A hand forged Uchidashi Iron votive tablet in the form of a Shojo sake sprite knocking back a massive cup. It is 84 x 58 cm (33 x 23 inches) and in fine condition, enclosed in the original black wooden frame. Uchidashi is a technique of hand hammering shapes and images into iron from behind, and is highly valued in Japan, a land where metal was extremely scarce and hand formed from iron ore up to the Meiji period. This dates from the 19th century.

A splendid antique Japanese usubata or flower vase used in ikebana. The surface of the piece is covered with a red coating to mimic cinnabar lacquer. The images of pheasants and peacocks surround the body of the vase. The sides are elephants and the legs are formed from a mythical beast. A detailed antique Japanese usubata flower vase. The vase contains a raised figure of phoenix flying and the entire vase contains carvings of paulownia flowers. An antique Japanese 2 part Usubata in bronze featuring a Minogame (age old turtle) base. Mounted to the shell is a flanged cloud rendering with four terminating columns that undulates to a removable wide rim water receptacle. Artist signed at the base of the receptacle. Beautiful craftsmanship including the fine stimple work to the underside of the turtle.

Exquisite bronze vase with a long, elegant neck, decorated with archaic motif. One of its sides has a small bird perched upon a branch with outspread wings, with mixed metal inlay including gold, silver, and shakudo. An antique bronze Inoshishi (white-moustached pig) made by Hobundo. It features prominently in Japanese culture, where it is widely seen as a fearsome and reckless animal,Among Japanese hunters, the boar's courage and defiance is a source of admiration, and hunters and mountain people not uncommonly name their sons after the animal. The underside of the pig has a maker's mark.

A pair Japanese hairpins in the fluttering style, worked in silver alloy and having attached metal strips. Showing beautiful peony flowers, one with tiny coral beads forming the center. A spectacular set of bira-bira-kanzashi hair pins in the form of cranes among blossoming plum and pine formed of silver which come enclosed in a custom made silk-lined wooden box. Two are 13 inches (33 cm) long, the other is 9 inches (23 cm) long and all are in fine condition. According to a label inside the box they are from Akita City in Northern Japan, sold by Takeyaso Hon-ten. The box is 15 x 17 x 5 inches (38 x 43 x 13 cm). An antique Japanese bronze okimono statue of a Japanese Ama or pearl diver walking to her boat in the wind. The artist conveyed the wind intensity by the way that her headscarf has unraveled as she keeps it atop her head. Her feet nearly reach the water embankment as she readies herself for the work ahead. The artist, Kyoi Masatsune - 京井政常,signed his name with a hallmark near her feet.
