This is an old Japanese towel rack, sometimes called a children’s kimono stand. The metal work is in traditional style and the mounts have been used on many different kinds of lacquer pieces throughout the Edo period. Antique Japanese lacquer vanity box with a nishiji (sprinkled gold) background, gold lacquer painted flora including peonies and chrysanthemums, recessed side handles, four front drawers with hirute style handles. The top of the box has a lacquer stand and mirror box, with painted butterfly. Inside the box is the Original bronze mirror with flying cranes and trees. An exquisite Lacquer Tray decorated with a spray of flowering Azalea in gold powder with mother of pearl, ceramic and lead inlays. Large kirigane flakes of solid gold decorate the petals. It is enclosed in a wooden box titled Tsutsuji Maki-e Nagatebon (Azalea Makie-e Tray). It is quite large at 19-1/2 x 14-1/2 x 2 inches (49.5 x 37 x 4.5 cm) and is in fine condition, dating from teh later Meiji to early Taisho period (1895-1915).

Japanese kogo, or incense container for tea ceremonies, in the form of a small bird with very fine maki-e or sprinkled gold lacquer exterior. This antique Japanese Marquetry box is a good example of the meticulous craftsmanship and attention to detail that marked the Japanese Meiji Period. Exquisite pair of lacquered wood temple lotus offering stands in lotus motif. The Lotus is the penultimate buddhist symbal of purity. Beautiful Meiji Period C.1890 maki-e raised gold lacquer Tachibana citrus tree with silver inlay cherry blossoms floating around the Tachibana tree. Some of the Tachibana citrus fruit also have silver inlay. Lacquer on rest of mirror case is Nashiji or speckled gold lacquer. An antique Japanese Chobako (merchant box) made of Hinoki (Cypress) and Kiri (Paulownia) woods. All original hand forged iron hardware. Upper carrying handle and hinged door that hides 4 drawers of varying sizes used by a merchant to store writing paper, receipts, money and calligraphy brushes.

Japanese carved wood Natsume tea caddy, with high relief lacquer imagery of ripened peaches growing on a branch, and a flying hornet on the top of the lid in lacquer. The side of the box is signed with red lacquer cartouche.

A beautifully turned bowl lacquered burnt orange-red over a black foot dating from the late 19th to early 20th century enclosed in an old kiri wood box titled Negoro-nuri Kashiki followed by a signature. The faintest brush strokes in perfect lines swirl around the outside, and cross the bowl inside. The bowl itself is also signed in red on the base. It is 18 cm (7 inches) diameter and in excellent condition.

A pair of Japanese negoro lacquer temple ritual sake offering containers, rich dark red lacquer over a black lacquer with a graceful body and a wishing ball stopper, Gigoshi, with a spiral design. The pair used for Buddhist purification and fulfillment rituals, and show the patina of respectful use.

Rare Antique Japanese Negoro red lacquer tiered stand. Five arched cabriole legs below the hand carved apron, the feet ending at a floral step base. Overall condition is very good and consistent with age.
