Covered bowl in lacquered wood covered with black lacquer (roiro) decorated with stylized flowers and fans in gold powder. The artist used several shades of gold to give relief to his creation. On the outside on a rich thick kinji background, decorated with flowers in gold and silver leafs around the perimeter and in the center 2 stylized Chinese characters in thick lumpy cinnabar lacquer with the most beautiful aesthetic effect, probably the mark of the artist. Japanese lacquer tray with raised gold cranes on top a hill under a large meandering pine tree along with smaller trees and grasses on a large expanse of nashiji lacquer with gold maki-e edges. The underside is performed in a darker sprinkled lacquer and has some chipping to the bottom outer edges, although the face of the tray is good with only some light surface wear. Measures 21.25" long, 15.25" wide, and 2.25" high. Dates circa 1900.

Mid Meiji black lacquer gold maki-e borders document box. Features three raised gold designs with very fine details and Japanese characters. The has a gold sprinkled nashiji interior. Japanese red lacquer on wood and brocaded Silk Obi Fabric top Folding Stand, 17 1/2" high, 18" wide, 14 1/2" deep-maximum(when opened), and 24" high, 14 1/2" deep(when closed), later part of Meiji period early 1900's, silk fabric has no open seam, all one(1) piece of silk Obi fabric, woven for this stand when it was made. The eight(8) metal caps have impressed design. There are some dull lacquer area from the usage but no damage.

A elegant and luxurious cigarette set by Ikkakusai, Nagata Tomijiro. The work is a combination of silver, woven strips of wood, and lacquer. The exterior section of the lid has two fan shaped silver plates insets with traditional motifs of bamboo, lingzhi (reishi), and the sage jurojin. The box has a metal and glass ash tray, a compartment for a lighter, and below a drawer for extra cigarettes. Cigarettes became popular in Japan during the Taisho and early Showa Periods...

Has original holes for tying top to bottom for travel. The inscription on both sides state the name of the confectioner. Trans: Confectioners Matsuzaka Asano Rokkado. An antique, Japanese boxwood lacquer comb with two kanzashi hair pins decorated with niello silver & mokoume-gane etched cat on gilt. The fine toothed comb is hand carved with floral motifs and a man walking over a bridge. The reverse side shows a house surrounded by mountains. Wooden combs in Japan were once believed to have shamanic qualities. Women would brush their black hair thinking that the combs would gather each strand’s spiritual energy...
