SOLD Japanese women's small tansu with hardwood drawers, and charming burl front panels. The gilt copper hardware conveys floral motifs of Kiri leaves, flower petals, and fruit. The chest is configured with eight drawers of varied size and a pair of small sliding door panels opening to a roomy compartment. Each drawer has a plush black material lining.

The top section has sliding panels with horizontal slat over two small interior drawers. The bottom section has a long drawer over another sliding panel compartment also with horizontal slats. Below this is a series of 4 drawers of various sizes and, on the right, a small safe door covering two small interior drawers...

Constructed using hardened wooden nails and Japanese joinery.

Age: Late Meiji/Taisho (1910-1920) Dimensions: 30" Diameter by 28 1/2" Long Large Japanese Meiji period kuruma (wheeled) tansu configured with seven drawers and a locking bar. The top drawer has embossed rectangular iron hardware in the form of a peacock. Warabite handles. 19th century. 47 3/4" long x 19 1/4" deep x 44 1/2" high. Very solid and in good, sturdy overall condition. The wheels are a bit stiff, but functional, and the original finish has only minor wear. There is a short cigarette burn on the edge of the top...
