The lock knobs feature a Plum Blossom design and the design of the handles is a straight Gumbai. Sliding side by side doors open to a spacious area where once merchant books and records were stored.

An antique Japanese Nihon Matsu Kasane Tansu (stacking chest on chest) made of Keyaki (Zelkova) and Suginoki (Cryptomeria) woods. Original Urushi lacquer finish and hand forged iron hardware. The lock plates feature the lucky Sho Chiku Bai (Pine Bamboo Plum blossom) motif with two stylized Chrysanthemum knobs. The handles are in the Warabite style with handle stoppers that are butterflies above and plum blossoms below...

An antique Japanese long low Todana Tansu made of Hinoki (Cypress) and Kiri (Paulownia) woods. Visually stunning horizontal slats on the two sliding doors cover 6 drawers (3 on each side). Original hand forged iron Hikute handles on each drawer. Additional slats to each side. It would make a wonderful sideboard or base cabinet for a TV monitor.

Antique Japanese tansu with 9 drawers. Made of kiri (paulownia) wood with traces of black lacquer. The upper portion of the chest has three full-width drawers. The lower portion of the chest has five drawers of various sizes including three very small drawers. Iron hardware includes square drawer pulls and heavy lock plates. Nice patination over all.

An antique Japanese Tansu chest called a Gyosho Bako (peddler's chest) made of Sugi (Cryptomeria) wood. All original hand forged iron hardware. Two pairs of rings on each side used to rope the Tansu to carry on ones back for peddling wares from town to town. The front hinged door secures 7 drawers used for inventory storage.

Beautiful antique Japanese cha tansu (tea chest) made of beautiful burl keyaki (elm) wood all over with original lacquer finish. Drawers of various sizes with heavy iron hardware with hirute shaped handles, side handles and four locks. Two compartments with sliding panels. Middle compartment includes staggering shelves and two small drawers. This piece is originally from Shizuoka, Japan. Age: Taisho Period (1912 - 1925). Size: 28.5"H x 30.5"L x 13.5"D.

These door panels as well as the safe box door are both removable. (The hinge pins are built into the door side of the lock and slot into the hinges on the tansu frame.) A compartment in the upper portion of the tansu has sliders with stripy Kaki (Persimmon) wood and glass that showcases a stepped interior shelf for display.
