Sparkling goldstone embellishment technique demonstrated in backgrounds below the shoulder and in decorative details around the waisted neck. Japanese cloisonné bottle form lidded vase on a Satsuma earthenware substrate with "kidney bean" cloisons, signed in orange-red on the base "Kinkozan." The body of the vase is decorated with opposing blue flower filled cartouches with white borders set against a black background permeated with flowers. A blue band with red and white flowers and diamond forms encircles the neck. The lid is decorated with a single flower. Meiji period (circa 1870s). 8” high. Very good overall condition...

One of the most uniquely designed cloisonne round boxes that I ever came across; this is so well done and is absolutely gorgeous, it is very well designed and intricate in the smallest details, the patina is a very lovely chocolate brown patina that is unretouched. Cloisonné enamel charger or large dish with flowers and a flying bird against a mustard yellow ground, the back with a swirl pattern. Late Meiji or early Taisho, c 1900. Diameter "12/ 30.3 cm, height "1 ½ / 3.7 cm. Condition: a damage to the backside enameling (c f last photo). Interestingly, it shows the kind of marker used to indicate the design where the cloisonné metal straps were to be soldered onto the base.
