A small porcelain teapot with molded chrysanthemum blossom decoration and arch-shaped handle. Thick greyish clay with craquelé. Condition: few tiny rim frits near the spout end, no repairs. Dimension: 12.4 cm high x 12.8 cm long.

This is a fine early Japanese Satsuma vase. It was made before 1900 and is one of the better examples I have seen from this artist.. The enamel work and relief dragon are done very well. The vase is interesting and has a lot of character. It is very heavy and in very good condition. The only real flaw is a broken horn on the dragon which is a common occurrence with these pieces. This can be fixed fairly easily and I could arrange for this small repair for the buyer. Stands 9 1/2 inches tall.

A finely potted large Chinese Imari three colour Charger decorated with a design of a garden with elaborate fence with Lotus finials to the posts and Mudan, flowering Peonies, Asters and various other flowers, coupled with a flowering Baicai, white cabbage (Pak Choi); traditional symbols of prosperity and wealth. The cavetto is undecorated and the rim painted with a further auspicious arabesque of entwined Peonies and Chrysanthemums, symbolising longevity and eternal youth. The reverse is pain...

An early vase by sculptural legend Yanagihara Mutsuo enclosed in the original signed wooden box titled Heki-yu Tetsu-e Kabin. Hekiyu is a glaze made of copper and cobalt, which when fired takes on the color of Lapiz. In this case the Lapiz blue pours down over a tapering base of raw earth decorated with spiraling blades in iron glaze. Rivulets of ash dribble down the red earth sides of this vase by Nishiura Takeshi enclosed in the original signed wooden box titled Echizen Henko. Positioning in the kiln, with one shoulder angled toward the flame, ensure the lip and one rounded corner are charred in that distinct ocher inidicative of the region. Elsewhere the ash is molten green. A great example of this lesser known ancient kiln site. The vessel is 18 x 13 x 17.5 cm (7-1/2 x 5 x 7-1/2 inches) and is in excellent condition...

A crane rises elegantly from a truncated tree, the legs intricately crafted and the body flowing in a liquid grace. This is Bizen Saikumono, a body of Bizen popular throughout the Edo, Meiji and early 20th centuries. Seto pottery, dated as early as the 13th century, produced around Seto city in Aichi Prefecture, Japan.
It is also considered as one of the Six Ancient Kilns of Japan.
