~~~SOLD~~~ A Japanese porcelain plate decorated with a dignitary beneath a parasol, attended by his servant, in a garden. The cavetto is unusually decorated with a continuous landscape, a device not often encountered on Arita porcelain. The use of linear shading is reminiscent of Chinese “Master of the Rocks” style. ~~~SOLD~~~ An early Japanese blue & white plate produced in Arita at the end of the seventeenth century. The centre features a roundel carefully painted with a vase of flowers on a verandah. The unusual vase perhaps based upon a Dutch example. The ‘Kraak’ style border after Chinese Ming design.
For a similar plate see ‘Ko-Imari Porcelain from the Collection of Oliver Impey, Barry Davies Oriental Art, 1997’ where it is noted that sherds of similar examples have been found at the Kakiemon kil... Height approximately 20.5 cm. This is glued between trumpet section and the vase body. There is added color to the connection line only, others are not there. Conditions as in the pictures. ~~~SOLD~~~ A fine Japanese porcelain plate, the centre painted with a pair of Ho-o birds perched on rocks amongst flowers. There are several versions of this design featuring different borders. This border is unusual, it features three Ming-style elephant headed dragons and a profusion of blooms. The back has a particularly delicate depiction of trailing blooms and an inner border of clouds. The mark is associated with the Old Kakiemon kiln, 1680’s.
