Ensemble of vintage silver and ancient banded agate beads from Sri Lanka. These were acquired in Kandy in 1998 or 1989, the banded agates are all hand carved and are at least 1000 years old (conservatively). Two strands of Kushan/Bactrian of mixed stone (mostly carnelian) beads. I acquired these along with coins dating from 1st- 4th CE from the same site in North West Pakistan, so these can be dated no later than 1500 years old. There are a few agate and quartzite beads in the lot, some with traces of “etching”. The crescent shaped beads would have originally small ringed shaped ornaments that have been drilled and “knapped” to some extent to accommodate them being strung...

Indian statue of a jain buddha seated in meditation with hands and feet crossed carved out of white marble. The base has a weathered donatory inscription with a horned bull or possibly a rhino in the middle. If a rhinocerous, the statue would be of Mahavira in the 11th reincarnation. Traces of red pigment. The nose was broken during the muslim invasions of India sometime between the 13th and 16th centuries. From the Mt. Abu region, 15th-16th century. It measures 13"deep, 26" wide 30" tall.

Small Shiva lingam carved on black stone, with four deities heads in relief around the lingam. The object is eroded with age, and encrusted with remnants of ritual substances, but the decoration is still visible. Nepal, 15th century or earlier. Height: 6.5 cm. Length: 8 cm. Good condition.

This sculpture includes an inscription on the reverse and is dated to "1427 Samvat," a date that places the sculpture in the 15th century. The piece has sustained a loss to the "edging" along the top (viewer's) right,as well as a loss adjacent to the "canopy," visible in the photograph. The casting quality is, in my opinion, outstanding,completely consistent with the early Jain classical style of sculpture. The piece has a beautiful, warm brown patina. It measures 6-1/4" in height.

A rare Jain Indian sandstone Stele with carved image of the 11 Jain disciples from the Gujarat or Rajasthan regions. Seated figures of Jain teachers are always sculpted with hands folded in meditation. Thie central Mahavira Swami has an auspicious diamond-shaped mark on his chest. The Swami is seated on a lotus with a halo above his head. Underneath the Swami are two mythological lions...

Date: 10-11th century

Deity head in hammered bronze. The bronze is very thick, the ears are cast separately and welded. The hair is perfectly chiseled with a lot of elegance. The patina is verdigris and recalls that of ancient Roman bronzes. It is highly probable that this head was buried for several centuries. We were unable to locate it geographically. India, Himalayas, Afghanistan, Swat valley....? The appearance of the metal and its patina would indicate a high period of several centuries...

Antique Indian white marble figure of Garuda in youthful human form, cobras wrapped around neck, shoulders, arms and encircling his head like a crown, hands clasped over the head of a giant cobra, losses of wings and lower portion of body, 16th/17th century.

Indian carved marble figure of the Hindu warrior goddess Durga sitting on lion, she holds a curved sword over her head and wears a crown, the eyes and mouth are painted on both the goddess and the lion, 12th century. Size: 42" high x 21" wide x 7 1/2" deep.
