Beautiful bronze offering chalice from India with one large peacock surrounded by four smaller peacocks, bowing their heads in worship to the central bird. The chalice has a hinge on its front and back, which could secured shut with a pin or rope. The bronze has some red patina on the feathers of each bird and has bronze patina. The peacock is the national bird of India and is also considered a vehicle to the Hindu lord Murugan...

Wonderful Indian bronze altar with the Hindu god Vishnu flanked by two female consorts, the three figures stand together on a raised platform with the four armed Vishnu in the center, a many headed naga (cobra snake) opens it's hood like an umbrella over Vishnu's head, a flat nimbus behind the figures depicts tendrils of water flowing from the mouths of two makara. Southern India. 19th century. Size: 11 1/2" high x 9 1/2" wide x 4" deep.

A beautiful late 19th century bronze kankavati featuring a wonderful warm patina. The box is divided into 6 yoni shaped compartments for sindoor or kukum powder. The peacock finial lifts out and then one or more of the compartments can be opened. In excellent condition, it measures 4 inches in diameter when closed.

Finely engraved small bronze altar of Vishnu with his consorts Shridevi and Bhudevi, cast in five parts. A walking cane or parasol handle made of silver with fine repousse and chased decoration of three ascetics and Lord Krishna playing the flute amidst cottages and trees. Finely crafted Mughal rock crystal-hilted Khangar dagger. The grip finely carved, with rolled pommel and gold-inlaid steel bolster. The single-edged blade forged of actively-patterned wootz damascus steel. In its velvet-covered wooden scabbard. 19th century. Overall length approx 11 inches (27 cm).

A round, convex shield with four central bosses. Decorated with raised design of tendrils, embellished with black and red enamel, and some tin plated areas. Reverse with four attaching bronze rings and a velvet pad. Compare with a similar shield in the Royal Ontario museum. Condition: few losses to enamel and wear to tinned areas, reverse with some residue of solder. Dimension: diameter: 28 cm.
