An antique bronze Yama Dharmaraja. Yama Dharmaraja is an emanation of Manjushri and is a Tantric Buddhist deity and a protector deity. The name means 'Lord of Death, King of the Law. Dharma is the law of cause and effect (karma).

Wonderful Indian bronze altar with the Hindu god Vishnu flanked by two female consorts, the three figures stand together on a raised platform with the four armed Vishnu in the center, a many headed naga (cobra snake) opens it's hood like an umbrella over Vishnu's head, a flat nimbus behind the figures depicts tendrils of water flowing from the mouths of two makara. A Kushan gold necklace delicately strung with very small ancient lapis lazuli beads (approximately 24 beads to an inch). There are 12 gold coins with images of 6 ancient kings - six on each side. There are 2 kings that we recognize - one is Vasudeva I, the other is "Ohsho" holding an elephant goad, thunderbolts, a trident and a goat. The center bead is a oblong fluted gold bead. The body of the ewer seems in embossed rather than cast bronze because the walls are very thin, however the neck and the handle are in cast bronze and very thick. The decor is incised with a character fighting a snake, details are inlaid in gold. 3 fantastic animals are arranged on the sides on either side of the ewer, they are treated in high relief and seem to be in solid bronze and to be one with the body of ewer because we do not see any welding or rivets...

Vase in the shape of a fish. Iron inlaid with gold and silver. Turquoise stone detail and red eye, either glass or ruby. On the reverse, a tie was soldered to the pewter later to be able to suspend it and thus make it a wall vase. But it seems to me that the object was simply made to be placed on a table. The silver inlays are very numerous, but oxidized in black, they have become almost invisible, however they are clearly distinguishable on the enlargements...

Ancient Indian Jain religious shrine, the central Jina surrounded by multiple celestial nymphs with two elephants at the top on either side of the canopy. This brass with inlaid silver sculpture has ancient Devanagari script over the entire back. The Jinas eyes and central chest are silver inlaid. Rubbed and some losses.

Small Indian bronze figure of a standing female deity, most likely the protective Jain Mother Goddess, Ambika. Although it is difficult to tell for sure, the popularity of the Yakshi goddess in Jainism makes it probable. The goddess stands in a very traditional straight pose associated with Jain statues. She holds various attributes in her four arms. Standing on either side are two smaller figures...

Small Indian Jain bronze of a seated Vishnu. His wife, Lakshmi is seated on his left knee. Vishnu hold his attributes, the conch shell in his upper right hand and Sudarshana Chakra (discus) in his upper left. Patina and traces of vermillion pigment. The faces of both deities are smooth from years of reverent handling.

Finely crafted Mughal rock crystal-hilted Khangar dagger. The grip finely carved, with rolled pommel and gold-inlaid steel bolster. The single-edged blade forged of actively-patterned wootz damascus steel. In its velvet-covered wooden scabbard. 19th century. Overall length approx 11 inches (27 cm).

From our Indian Subcontinent Collection, a fine 19th century brass surahi (water flask) paired with a large Kashmiri flashed-silver over lacquered-brass undertray, also 19th century. These two pieces were not originally part of a formal set, but we find that they make for an attractive and logical pairing. The surahi is of traditional form with large bulbous body, splayed foot, and long tapering neck...
