A Chinese paper fan with bamboo sticks, the paper centre is varnished in order to stiffen the paper. The bamboo sticks are decorated with a hot point, a technique known in the West as pyrography. There is a worn out silk tassel with a large amethyst bead. Approximately 30 cm long. The fan is in fine condition overall but one or two on the bamboo inner sticks have short splits...

This fine old mask would have been used in the same family for several generations to perform rituals such as those for a newborn baby and maturation. The wood for this important mask would have been taken from dep in the forest where spirits were believed to live. 14.5 inches, 37 cm.

Painted - clobbered - probably in Holland for the European market, in iron red, green, pink, black and gilt over the original under-glaze blue decoration. The base with a pseudo-Chinese seal mark in iron red. Height, including lid "4 1/2/ 11 cm. Condition: repair to the lid (cf. photos), otherwise fine.

Sold to China - May 2012 售至中国 - 2012 年5月 A rare finely painted porcelain bottle vase decorated in what is known in America as the "Fitzhugh" pattern. This item was produced, probably for export to the USA, either late in the Qianlong reign (1736-1795) or during the reign of the Jiaqinq emperor (1796-1820). Condition - there is glaze loss and minor chipping to the rim; no further damage and no restoration. 25cm (9.9inches) high.
