This impressive and imposing pair of pottery figures was made during the early Tang Dynasty (AD 618 - 906). They are "heavily-potted" and made from a fine-grained pale grey pottery... Pair of large Chinese late Qing dynasty globular form jars with domed covers moulded in relief with cranes resting in a lotus pond among large flowering plants and leafy stems executed in susancai colors of green, yellow, and aubergine with black and white highlights. The domed covers are decorated with lotus flowers. The bases bear Wang Bing Rong seal marks in relief. 19th century. Measure about 9 1/2" high by about 8 1/2" diameter...
