Intricately carved white jade lidded vase, standing on high foot, exquisitely detailed with pierced carved Hu-birds as handles on either side of oval shaped body, rings of jade are carved to hang free, lid with lotus shaped finial. Republic period. Size: 7" high x 4" length x 2" deep

Beautifully hand carved jade pendant of the mystical fenghuang, or phoenix, with a blooming lotus beside it. The fenghuang symbolizes the union of yin and yang, and each part of its body represents a different word: its head is for virtue, wings are duty, back is propriety, abdomen for credibility, and chest for mercy. A beautiful Chinese lacquer box, with an apocryphal Qianlong gold tone metal plate on the underside. This unique box has China painted on the inside which indicates about an 1890 date when the McKinley act was introduced. The box measures 5 3/4" x 4" x 2" and is very dense and heavy for its size. It is a charming and inexpensive example for your existing lacquer collection.

DESCRIPTION: A Chinese pendant with coral colored stone mounted as a brooch in high relief with a scholar standing under a twisting pine in a mountain setting. The rectangular gilt frame is cast as four bamboo stalks and has a sturdy open “mesh” backing fitted with a stick pin and gold loop so that it can be worn as a brooch or necklace. Very fine work overall with no tarnish anywhere to the gilt frame. DIMENSIONS: 2 3/8” long (6 cm) x 1 7/8” wide (4.8 cm).
